Forums - Sony Discussion - Journey gets 2/5 review for having no gameplay and being too easy

Quarter To Three has given Journey 2/5 stars. The site(which looks like some random blog) is counted on Metacritic which converted the score into a 40/100. How this site got on Metacritics list is beyond me....The problem I have with this review is that this reviewer obviously doesn't get what Journey is. He critcizes Journey for a lack of gameplay or challenge....

My favorite quote from the review:

"Journey is nothing like Flower, which was a unique spry tale of wind, color, and redemption. Journey is yet another game in which you control a little dude who sometimes jumps."

Quarter  To Three is the only reviewer to give Journey a negative review. All other reviews are positive and it has no mixed reviews. 
Other games where Quarter To Three stands as the only critic to give a negative review are Syndicate , Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Soul Calibur V.

Well i agree with the score, but not really some of his wording



Yeah, while I was playing the game I was thinking "This is exactly like Mario! You're playing a little guy who jumps!" I agree with their other reviews (the scores, anyway, don't really want to read them), but they clearly didn't understand Journey at all. Which is odd, since it's a pretty straightforward game.



Seems like he let his opinion take over WAY to much.

I didn't realise there was co-op in the game until the 'Companions you met on your Journey' screen appeared at the end. I just figured it was a guide that helped you along the way, I felt like a real idiot upon realising it was actually another player.

I love the way they handled it. And the fact that there's no way to know who it is until after the game, or to really communicate with them at all. It made it so much cooler and more immersive when I stumbled across another dude and we just naturally started helping each other glide around and make otherwise impossible jumps and would be frantically looking for one another whenever we'd get separated. Magical stuff. Hearing some mouthbreather over a headset or seeing that my mysterious friend was actually xXInsAneCloWnPosSy316Xx would have totally ruined the illusion.



I have yet to play the game due to a lack of time (I'd like to sit through the whole thing at once rather than break it into parts), but I think this person missed the point... which is odd, because the title tells you what the game is about. Everyone who has played it that I have heard from said that it is very much about the journey (and the co-op), and that's what makes it so good.



Journey is an experience that differs quite a lot from other games, so I'm not surprised some don't feel entertained by it.
I'm sure this is simply this reviewers impression of it and it was bound to happen, so I'm not sure why there was a need to make a thread about that.

Pitfall Harry was the original little jumping man :P
