Okay i didn't see this thread before.

So I have a comp running vista. I figure I should be able to run CIV3 amirite?

But 15 minutes to an hour into just about any game I play The computer freezes up.
I don't really know where to go from that.

What should I do?

Got a new mouse and the cursor shakes quite a bit when the mouse stops moving, it's really annoying.

And I tried switching usb ports and it didn't help. It's a really cheap mouse so maybe that's the problem?

Ok i have a small problem

I have this laptop and it used 2 run windows xp, but something happend dunno what exactly so i think i erased my HD? anyway i used the recovery/master cd and so far so good.
but them bamm it won't load past:

Ping problem

For some reason my ping keeps gettgin worst and worst. I checked it maybe a year ago and it about at 25, then all of a sudden about 5 months ago it went to 54 and now lately it's at 78? Why does my ping keep getting worst and worst?

Alright sorry its late and I'm tired and kinda forgot about this thread.
So here are a couple things I'd try for a couple questions, I'll check out some others later.

4 things to try:
1. Vista should give you the ability to run the game in compatibility mode.
Try right clicking the shortcut and select 'Compatibility' tab and try XP with different service packs.

2. Update your video drivers to the latest to see if that fixes any issues

3. Try running the game as an admin (right click shortcut and select 'Run as Admin' and yes to any prompt)

4. Try lowering some graphical settings in case the graphics card/pc is getting too hot or can't handle it

question: so this 'recovery/master cd' is it a windows xp installation cd?
and to clarify, it crashes while loading the files before you get any prompts or questions?

1. Big question: Is this a laptop that has a tracking pad on the palm rest? I've seen them cause issues when they are too sensitive and your palms resting on the laptop cause the mouse to get screwy. Also make sure your mouse pad is clean and don't use glass tables.
If this isn't a laptop or it happens even when your hands are not on the laptop at all then the mouse is probably beat. there are some settings that can be seen under control panel | mouse (xp i think) or control panel | hardware and sound | devices and printers | mouse in windows 7 and probably vista. However I don't think any settings will stop it from shaking on its own. See if you can try another person's mouse for a second to see if it continues with that.

2. Ping is relative to something else, meaning that you can 'ping' another computer or server on a network to see how long it takes for your signal to reach it and make it back i believe. So when you say that your ping is getting worse, you need to let us know what you are trying to ping. Finally pings will usually fluctuate as network activity changes and these numbers are in milliseconds so 78ms isn't horrible. If your using wireless that won't help either since its signal can vary in strength. Let us know :)

I found out what was wrong with my mouse and it was just that the mouse was crappy. The mouse pad has theses tiny bumps in it (and it never bothered any of my other mouses but this one) and that's whats making it go crazy.

I just go to Speedtest.net and check my ping there. I have a wired high speed internet connection, and it was just odd to me because I always had a really good ping then all of a sudden it went from being 25 to 78 in a year. Now it's permanently in the 70's. I also go to Pingtest.net and I always had a perfect A quality ping now it's a B quality ping.

Quick answer - If you have cable internet then that means you 'share' your connection with the people around you that also use cable internet. So it could be that a year ago, not as many people around you had cable internet and now that more people are using it, you are not getting as much bandwidth. It may improve during non peak times but if enough people have jumped on the cable bandwagon then it won't matter since enough people are sharing the bandwidth to slow you down. I have a feeling this is what the cause is since cable internet is spreading very fast ;)
