Forums - PC Discussion - Remedy's message to Alan Wake PC pirates: "enjoy the story!"

Artists tend to be more realistic about this sort of thing. It's the executives that go batshit berserk for no good reason. Hell, i imagine the lawyers the executives pay don't really care either, since they're on retainer

Ahh, rants.

Order meal.

Eat meal. Was it a good meal? Was the service to your liking?

If yes to both, pay for meal.

If no to both, announce to manager you refuse to pay bill or go to bathroom and run out the back door.

Doesn't quite work that way in reality.

single player games really have no hope against pirates so this is probably the best method to deter it. Guilt some potential pirates or hopefully make then big fans of the series. Its odd that the game has drm despite the message. O well steam drm is fine with me. Now I just need to wait for a good sale XD.

I already bought the game when it was new for the 360.

I liked it enough that I said I'd buy it again when it came out on PC, just so I could see it played at full res with DX10/11 effects. If it's available on Steam, figure it'll be one of my many 12 Days of Christmas Sale purchases.

It's not a good process that always leads to good results though. I know most pirates like to think what they're doing is OK, (it isn't) but most will just pirate again and again and again.

Alan Wake is no stranger to piracy, it was second on the 360 piracy charts the year it came out
Xbox 360 Unauthorized BitTorrent Downloads in 2010 (through December 26, 2010)
1. Dante’s Inferno (1,280,000)
2. Alan Wake (1,140,000)
3. Red Dead Redemption (1,060,000)
4. Halo Reach (990,000)
5. Call of Duty: Black Ops (930,000)

I for one will be buying it

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

In today's day and age of absolutely, horrifyingly, ridiculously shitty, overhyped games piracy seems to be the only way to actually see if the game is good, or as is the case significantly more often than not, just hyped up by a lot of dumb sheep. Maybe if there were proper demos this wouldn't be as big of a problem.

I think it's wrong to release Alan Wake to a bunch of pirates. When I mostly played PC games I pirated everything. I still never pay for a PC game that doesn't demand a CD key for online play.

That comparison is so retarded and you know it, the food is gone when eaten and money lost, a copy is a copy the original can still be sold!!!

And yes reality works that way with ,music, games and movies.

I´ve done it since the nes days and so have everyone I know, piracy is the best consumer tool you can have before making a decision to buy. Whay ever your personal opinion on this is the reality is people like to own the things they like so they buy it.

A study commissioned by the Swiss government has found that the country's current piracy laws, which allow downloading of stuff for "personal use", should stay. Because they actually encourage people to buy more stuff.

Those downloading music were led to buy more music, and those downloading games were also found to actually be the biggest purchasers of games, etc.

The study, commissioned by an unnamed company and performed by the GfK Group, found that users of pirate sites purchase a good deal of content legally, reports German technology site Telepolis.

Users of pirate sites on average buy more media content than those who do not use such sites, according to the study, validating the position that many supporters of these sites take that most use it as a way to preview content before they actually purchase it.

Despite the claims of the MPAA and other supporters of SOPA and PIPA, file-sharing does not negatively impact box office sales in the U.S., according to a new study conducted by economists from Wellesley College and the University of Minnesota.

The study found that longer gaps between a movie’s release in America and its release in foreign countries led to increased piracy in those countries, and correspondingly lower box office sales. The study estimates that pre-release piracy impacted foreign box office sales by as much as 7%
In the U.S., however, box office sales were not impacted by piracy at all. The study concludes that the impact of piracy is driven primarily by the lack of legal availability of content in foreign markets.

Digitization has a great influence on.  The research shows that the economic effects of file sharing on the Dutch prosperity on the short and long term are strongly positive

The link is in dutch and the rapport but you can use a traslation tool.
