Had a discussion with another member and we breifly discussed platformers across systems.  There has been talk all gen about the Wii being the king of platformers but i wasnt convinced. Im not talking sales, I know that Mario crushes all, I'm talking does the Wii really have more platformers available than the other two?? 

No, it doesnt. THe XBOX360 holds that crown, I counted over 200 platformers(2d/3d). Wow. That is alot, now of course a vast majority of these games are on XBOX LIVE, but I think it would be ignorant to not consider them, they are games on the platform after all. http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?platform=1029&category=Platformers&mode=all&sort=views&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc&official=all&page=0  Just to keep things as fair as possible I did not count the cancelled games of course, or ones that have not come out. And just to keep things even more fair I did not count rereleases, that means, things like Sonic CD I left of.

These lists are not set in stone, I know for a fact some games are missing. Trine1 adn De blob2 from the PS3 list.  A boy and his blob from the Wii list, but I think this gives us a good idea and I dont think its that messed up to account for 50-100 games.  So there it goes 360>Wii>PS3

EDIT: before this goes south, I have no agenda, I just thought it would be interesting if someone did some research on this.  PS3 is my fav console this gen, and it gets whooped in this category and I dont even own a 360 so im not trying to make it look good

Pretty surprised! I would think it would have been at least the PS3 it seemed to have a lot of niche titles.

Ninja Gaiden 3? Symphony of the Night? Raving Rabbids? I'm also seeing cancelled games on the 360 list (Mega Man Universe), what a joke.

EDIT: And apparently Sonic Unleashed DLC packs are listed too.

People alway act like XBLA games don't exist but there are a lot of gems in there... some of my most played games are arcade games.

Going by the database on this site, Wii has the most retail platformers, with PS3 in second and 360 in third. Including the online services (WW, PSN and XBL), 360 has 185 (21 retail and 164 XBL), Wii had 95 (Wii 63 and WW 32), and PS3 has 184 (PS3 32 and PSN 152).

The problem with this is it includes games that haven't been released and includes games from all regions (it might also include cancelled games). Now, with the PS3, it includes PSN releases of PSP games, so they don't count because you can't play PSP games directly from your PS3. Also, games that people might not consider platformers are also on the list (Symphony of the Night, for example). It also seems that some DLC is included with the lists (the DLC for Prince of Persia 2008, for example).

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is not a platformer.

So the PC is the god of platforming? Anyway, not everybody has an internet connection, so it doesn't count *trollface*

So you're counting XBLA, but not WW or VC? Seems fair...

How does the number of games matter significantly? Surely it's the quality of the top few titles that matters?
