Forums - Sony Discussion - PS Vita AT&T Price Plans Changed

http://us.playstation.com/psvita/att/

The PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi System, powered by AT&T Mobile Broadband Network, changes the way you play with real-time scores and game ranking news feeds, competitive multiplayer game sessions, and cross-game text messaging with Party. Game at the speed of your mobile life style.

Service Plan

The AT&T Data Connect plans are month by month and not contract based. All plans include complimentary AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot access in the United States. There are two plan choices:

  1. 250MB for $14.99, 30-day recurring opt out, which starts at the date and time of purchase.
  2. 3GB for $30.00, 30-day recurring opt out, which starts at the date and time of purchase.

Software Integration

Below are the various ways 3G is optimized throughout PS Vita’s first party titles.

those prices don't seem all that extreme to me if I end up getting the 3G version .

Compared to me paying $27.50/month for unlimited everything on my phone?

I could be wrong but I suspect that most people who want a portable gaming system to play online from anywhere probably already own a smartphone that can handle tethering; and wouldn't most of these people be better off paying for a larger data-plan on their phone rather than using a distinct data-plan for the Vita?

I'm really wondering about how well the Vita will do 2 months into US release, SONY's business strategy continues to puzzle me since the PS3 was revealed.

I think I'll still stick with the WiFi version.....

Also didn't they say Modnation racers isn't compatible with online play? Why bother utilizing 3G for it o.O?

Those data plans are downright scary.

I can't speak to other providers but I know that it would cost me $30 a month to activate the wireless hot spot on my HTC Evo with Sprint. Sprint has unlimited data, so if I were in the market for a Vita, I'd just add the hotspot to my current plan.

I looked into tethering for my iphone.
I would have to pay an additional $20 per month just to allow tethering. This $20 month would be recurring every month.

If I go on a road trip or something, the 3G version of the Vita absolutely shows its value. I could get the prepayed non-recurring $15 data plan -one time for such a need. Its great that the pricing is non-contract based.

If it was contract based, it would almost be as bad as me having to pay an extra $20/month just to tether.
If that was the case, I might commiserate with you all- but there is no reason to.

With all of that said, the extra $50 up front for the always present ability to have 3G access, seems like a good choice for me.

With a little bit of customisation, it's completely free:
