Forums - Movies & TV - TorrentFreak lists 2011's top ten pirated movies

Films like Harry Potter, Twilight, and Pirates of the Caribbean, which were in the top five by international gross, appear to have scored much lower as their advantage of appealing to wide audiences may have been negated. The appearance of low-grossing films like Sucker Punch, 127 Hours, and Source Code are also a clue of the demographics of pirates. Of course, it's impossible to account for every statistic with such broad generalizations — the absence of Transformers and the appearance of Rango are harder to explain.

Below we've reproduced TorrentFreak's top ten chart, which was collected "from several sources, including reports from thousands of BitTorrent trackers" and includes "all release formats, including cammed versions." We've added each movie's worldwide gross ranking from Box Office Mojo.

1 Fast Five 9,260,000 $626,137,675 6
2 The Hangover Part II 8,840,000 $581,464,305 7

I'm surprised big blockbusters like Pirates 4 and Transformers 3 aren't in the list.

127 hours, King's Speech's presence can easily be understood because they didn't have a simultaneous WW launch and they had Oscar buzz, so the rest of the world wanted to see what all the fuzz was about. Can't explain why Fast Five is number 1 though. A lot of car nuts on torrent sites?

Could be wrong but I suspect some movie downloads are driven by people who are ashamed to buy/rent a movie and/or expect it to be so bad that they'll turn it off ...

They're ordered way different than I would've expected

Fast Five was the most successful film of the franchise so far and was a super duper hit. It has a much higher rating then any other Fast and Furious films as it has a 7.3 on IMDB.

The rock vs Diesel fight was great and was very well liked. It was a throwback to the old school fist fights with the big hero's.

It was very popular with young people and was easily one of the best action blockbuster film of the year.

The King's Speech had a lot of buzz and people do care if films win awards, as people check them out to see the buzz.

Hangover 2 makes sense as Hangover 1 is one of the most pirated films of all time.

Young people liked it and its certain that Fast Six will be a much bigger hit in 2013 or whatever.

However piracy does not equal box office failure. Most pirated films ever are Avatar, The Dark Knight, Transformers 1, Inception, Hangover, Star Trek

When a big movie is pirated a lot, people usually like and end up watching the sequel

first place is easy. nothing against those people but i believe the audience watching fast and furious movies isn't the category "i own much money" it's the category "i'm young without money and i love tuning cars" and i believe these people are more in the illegal downloading scene than someone mid 40 earning 100k per year or the kids of them. this movie was really good for the series but it has gotten some special fans over the past movies of this series.

Very shocked Sucker Punch is on that list. If the publisher knew it was being pirated that much, you'd think they would offer alternative (e.g. Netflix) rights pretty quickly.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Fast Five - People really want to see it... kinda.

I really wonder why Vin Diesel isn't going to be in The Expendables 2,since he has such star-power.
