great thread. I knew something Sony went bad when I saw so many replies. Vita needs help, it needs games badly, how is Uncharted the big game in Japan Sony. that makes no sense. And that memory card thing is going to hurt them badly.

My thoughts exactly. PSVita needs a real Japanese killer-app (I wonder why they didn't push Gravity Daze, it was perfect for the job). And yes, they should have authorized the re-use of memory sticks. Those new memory cards are a big, big mistake...

Gravity Daze isn't out that's why

It's so funny to see people trying to find excuses for Vita's failure and PS3 behind the Wii this week...

Thats pretty bad...

But wait until you see the weeks following the Western launch... now that WILL be horrific.

You sound so certain.

Maybe Sony will get it right and ship majority of WiFi rather than the not so needed 3G/WiFi model, which is clearly a mistake they made in Japan if you go by all the reports and data we have recieved thus far.

I wouldn't be astonished to find that Sony are pushing the 3G version more than the other. It's more expensive, thus they'll get closer to profit. They wouldn't want the cheaper version with heavier losses to succeed. And that'll probably stay that way for a while.

I only see that being a huge mistake, especially considering AT&T's ridiculous 3G plan prices and capped GB limits.

Currently, for phones anyways, the prices are $15/month (1GB Data), $25/month (2GB Data), $45/month (4GB Data).

Also, why wouldn't they want the WiFi only model to sell well? Surely what they lose on the device they gain back on memory card sales, then some more on a software sale to go with them.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I honestly think it is the name "Vita" that made people not want to buy it. I can tell you that is the main reason why I won't touch the thing.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I don't think Vita sales are that much of a surprise. Right now it has less compelling games than PSP (or 3DS in particular) particularly for Japan I think.

Yes it's new, but its still sharing shelf space with a sibling with legs in it locally plus a now decently established 3DS with some key titles just released.

The Vita was never going to come out doing gangbusters in Japan in IMHO. It'll grow if they give it the right titles and move it into pole position ahead of the PSP for all new software.

People really expect too much from new hardware launches IMHO. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo would have ditched most of their systems if they reacted the same way after a few weeks sales. So far Vita has launched better than PSP so far as I know which means it's positive in relation to where PSP started and if properly managed in the market can grow from there.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

How can it be a mistake if it sold great? . Although, I agree with the bold.

Anyway. I really love the overreaction in this thread. It's really funny. . Vita is only out for 9 days and we are already calling it doom. Yes, it's disappointing but what can it do against 3DS' 2 mario and monHun and to some extent it's older brother "the PSP"? Just like I said on the 3DS gloom and doom post and threads before it's best to wait for the right games to come out before we call it doom.

So the 3DS now has double the amount of million sellers compared to the PS3 in Japan? =)

Question! What are the big Vita releases for the next month or so? I know about the 3DS's next few months of software, and they look good, but is the Vita going to have a drought like the 3DS did, or will it quickly receive new software.

For the record, here are the 3DS's next few months of notable titles in Japan.

January: Ace Combat 3D, Beyond the Labyrinth, Rhythm Thief, Resident Evil Revelations
February: Girl's RPG, NewLovePlus, Theatrhythm, Tekken
March: Hatsune Miku, Metal Gear Solid 3, Kid Icarus Uprising

What does the Vita have to match this?

Love and tolerate.

Ah ok thanks for the info I feel better already :) I hope it'll sell well

These God-awful FFTurd-2 sales make me sooooo happy!

And I don't want to jump the gun on the Vita sales. I still stand by my opinion that it'll do worse than the PSP, yet it will recover, surely.
