It is a good first step -- SONY needs to do more though with their TV business.

Also SONY needs to move more business ventures away from the Yen. If im not mistaken SONY Pictures deals in USD so there is no reason SONY move various contracts to Won or USD in order to take advantage of weaker currencies since the Japanese government seems useless at reducing the strength of the Yen.

It probably has not been posted before because you are one of the few who is very iton financial numbers/stock and other related stuff on Vgchartz. Most left the site who cared (like FishyJoe). Would not be surprised if you created 30% of this kind of threads the last half year...

With shares going up and losing one part that is responsible for quite some losses I would rather call this positve news if anything.

bitter-sweet

they have taken a big loss as a one off to facilitate this and if it doesnt work then its the end of sony tv's i think.

it is like Sega getting rid of the console business. Shares went up, but a big part of the business was killed.
Next stop should be the cell phones.

How is Samsung doing with the LCD panels btw? You said they think they can turn it around, I thought they were profitable in this segment.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

"The maker of Walkman music players and PlayStation consoles has declined 52 percent this year, valuing the company at $18 billion, down from more than $100 billion in September 2000"

Is this real? They were valued $100 billion in 2000 and now only $18 billion in 2011.What made them lose so much?

Sony, please cut your Bravia price, I live and breath Playstation, my phone is an Xperia Arc S, I'm typing this on a Vaio, however, your TV is double the price of LG/Samsung, how to afford?

Sony bleeding money in the TV department and having to sell it off is not bad news?

We already knew that, the fact that SONY is doing something about it could be considered good news.
