Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN - Zelda: Skyward Sword - The Great Graphics Debate

the graphics are much better than most hd games graphics if it comes to design/style/art whatever you will call it. you can't compare this with an uncharted because they run on two different consoles. for a wii game the graphics is great if it would run on a hd console sure it wouldn't be so great anymore. the art style will be still great but it would need more details on the objects/characters and would need more pixels. style should remain the same.

the great job nintendo is doing is that they know the wii doesn't have so much power so they concentrate more in the art style.

I'm really sad now that i don't own a wii. would buy a wii for this game but wii u won't take so long anymore so i don't buy the wii

I think there are those who are impressed by art and those who are impressed by achievement. I personally have been impressed by both, specifically with different PC releases. For example, the level of achievement Skyrim has in its world AS WELL as the art style is superior to Oblivion in my opinion. So with that, PS360 owners, unconscious of it, measure technical achievement with amazement rather than a lustrous art-style. The substance of their argument doesn't consist of whether Skyward Sword looks great or not, but whether or not it has achieved something amazing in terms of technology in relation to this graphics style. Which I agree, that it isn't much more impressive than Twilight Princess was. However, many in the gaming media as well as fans of other consoles do not regard art direction at all, and that is the issue that this article argues against. A very well-made argument might I add. I'm not really impressed by Skyward Sword's art-style to be honest, games like Okami, Muramasa, and other Action-Adventure games are far more original, unique, and impressive. That doesn't mean that it is bad, just that I feel that some overstate it. Regardless, it is sufficient enough to impart the atmosphere of the game to me with the other content that is, such as the story, back-story, combat, and so on.

HELL YEAH!

Have you guys played it yet? The graphics don't really look great to me I mean there are moments where it looks awesome, but it does this stupid blur for things in the background but aren't really that far off though it mostly does this in the academy island. The game is ugly and beautiful at the same time for some reason to me. I need to go back and play windwaker because i swear it looks better.

its innovative and great....but all games have some flaws, but the gameplay is what wins here......

the concept art looks great, the game however looks boxy, jagged from the low poly count models that work against the intended art style and imo make it look bad. game isn't even out yet and it already looks dated.

Also, I'm glad IGN finally has a Nintendo Team that actually likes Nintendo.
Remember when IGN made several articles and pod casts to hate on NSMBWii? Ughh!!

NSMBWii isn't that good bro, and SMG2 is inferior to SMG, deal with it!

Please note this user review of Arkham City -

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

i prefer gameplay over graphics thats why i play timesplitters 2 still and modern warfare 3 :P and this article is well pointed out, to many hd nerds out there these days

Well I think this game graphics aren't that great something they point very well in video reviews, especially compared to SMG that is now an +4 year old game.

The levels in SMG are all tiny compared to Zelda's. Durh.
