Forums - Politics Discussion - America deploying troops to Australia!

Well China is expanding its military capabilities to the point where they are a threat to all of the United States bases in the Asian Pacific. New missile systems in use by China are capable of destroying every US military instillation and in a concentrated attack they would leave American forces and their allies defenseless.

The US has realized the impending threat to their allies and the national interests of America. As such the US Government has reached a defense agreement with Australia to base up to 1,000 marines in Darwin. Expansion of the US's military defenses in the city of Perth are also expected. The Australian Government sees these new troops and bases as necessary "From the Australian perspective, here we are with a vast coastline, a population of just 23?million. It has always made national security sense to have a strong security alliance with America."

"The U.S. could build their forces up quickly in places like Australia out of missile range from China," said Alan Dupont, a professor of international security at Sydney University.

President Barack Obama is expected to confirm this new base and the permanent presence of US forces in Australia next week alongside Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Analysts expect the US president to call this new base a rotational base rather then a permanent base, this is due to the fact that neither the Australian Prime Minister nor the US President want to upset the Australian people or have them believe that they are being occupied.

The base in Australia in required for US defense in Asia Pacific. It will serve as a rapid reaction force. Increases in US military presence outside of China's missile rang is expected. A naval base is also being talked about because the current US Naval bases are all within striking distance of China.

With China's increasing military presence and the fact that China has begun threatening countries using their militaries to bully them. Threatening instability with US allies. This base is seen as a move to ensure the US can protect its interests in Asia Pacific as well as the interests of its allies!

What do you think is this base necessary? Should the US be building more bases around China in case a conflict in Asia breaks out?

Disclaimer: No Kangaroo's were hurt in the building of these bases.

i really don't know if the base should be built. But i don't like the way china's using their increasing military power to bullly it's neighbors specially on their south china sea ridiculous claims. i don't like usa power over the world either but i much prefer them over china.

Has oil been discovered here or something?

america sees a possible threat in every country that's why they deploy their troops everywhere. maybe that's the reason there are so many threats for america because many people on this planet don't like this behaviour? what would you say if other countries would do the same around the usa knowing all these troops are only in these countries (let's say canada) because of usa?

i bet if china or other countries would deploy troops in canada and mexico your politicans and normal people as well would go crazy and maybe would start a war because then it would be a "threat" as well right? but otherwise it's ok makes sense...

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Wouldn't have thought that Julia Gillard would've acepted that. Altought that follows the same support they've showed in all those US invasions, and all that shite.

isn't the whole mutually assured destruction enough to prevent any future wars between big nations??? Anyway as long as Australia wants it why not? Better stationed in Australia then fighting an unwinnable war against gurilla forces in the middle east. When will countries learn that it is impossible to occupy a country whose people don't like you unless you kill everyone. I guess the whole learn from history thing doesn't really happen.

MAD is not going to stop wars and countries should be smart hope MAD stops them from firing any nukes in the first place. As an Australian I don't want American troops in my country but then again I am on the other side and will have nothing to do with them.

There is oil in the top of Australia between East Timor and Australia but I don't think America will sabatoge our friendship for the oil and then will also most lickly lose New Zealand as we three make up ANZUS a military allience.

Makes sense. Considering how the Australians did in the Emu War I think they need all support they can get.
