Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your Top 50 Games: 2011 Discussion Thread

Smeags said:
Well, I've finished the preliminary tallying.

46 users have submitted a list containing 50 of their favorite games (last year: 26).

803 unique games have been submitted (last year: 546).

Now to starting filling in the blanks...

Nice there's been a rise in number of complete lists this year but sadly there also was a drop in discussion. Last year's thread totalled 1482 posts and this one stands at 1268 posts as of now.

What the hell happened to my post? That's some messed up layout!

I guess I could have explained my picks but I didn't see a reason to. They're just games I like in the order that I like them. I feel kinda bad now, since so many other people took the time to explain theirs, posted screen shots, and stuff. I feel like a lazy bastard!

I took a look at last year's discussion thread; there's a lot more spam in that thread. I think this one has more actual discussion.

I wouldn't worry about it too much however, I will say that writing about the games was actually fun as the more I wrote the more I wanted to go back and play some of my fave classics. These threads have been great for nostalgia!

Totally agree! I loved going back and having to purposefully reminice about the game I was writing about. I would listen to a couple of songs, watch some footage... and really want to go back and play them all over again. ^_^

Also... I'll allow you guys to ask me about how games in a single franchise (Pokemon, Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Halo, etc.) stacked up against each other! It's the least you guys deserve for participating.

I don't feel like a lazy bastard myself for just listing the games. If a person is curious enough they can look it up for themselves. I know I listed a decent amount of unique games that no one listed. Off the top of my head they would be

Magic Carpet (PC) - gem back in the day and was a very interesting and fun game concept, funny that EA has let all their amazing ideas/series die....  Road Rash, Desert Strike, General Chaos, Magic Carpet, etc... It was as if they bought studios and let their ideas die

General Chaos (Genesis) - keeping my EA boycott till they release another

Starsiege: Tribes (PC) - which I consider one of the most innovative FPS, I regard the play style/concept way better than Halo and it was one of the first games that supported more than 15+ players at one time (I forget the limit but it was probably around 20-30 and I was rocking a ISDN while over 95% of the players were on 56k),

Worms Armageddon (N64) - I know the game was listed but it was either the PS or PC version which I consider the N64 the best for 4 player local multiplayer matches.

Metal Slug Advance - I know a few listed other Metal Slug games but I highly doubt anyone listed this one. It is the only Metal Slug to have a life bar instead of instant death. Was a very fun handheld game and I consider it one of the best Metal Slug titles. A lot of effort was put into the game and it shows.

Civilization 3 (PC) - I don't even have to look and can guarantee that someone listed one of the Civ games in their list. However, I don't think anyone picked number 3 which was bad ass.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert (PC) - I'm sure someone listed the first game but not too sure if anyone picked Red Alert. I enjoyed the first game a lot but I felt that Red Alert made C&C top notch standing on top next to Warcraft series.

Super Paper Mario (Wii) - most Paper Mario fans consider it the bastard child but I really enjoyed this game despite all the negativity. Perhaps it was because I was stoned 95% of the times I played this game or that I loved the flipping 2D to 3D to solve little puzzles / figure out where to go.  Maybe someone listed it but I doubt it.

Ikaruga (GC) - insanely hard game.  I give props to anyone that can beat it because I can't...

Can we ask about them now or do you need more time to add up the data? The Metal Gear Solid, Mario and Final Fantasy rankings sure sound interesting to me,
