Forums - Politics Discussion - World War 2:Who was the right one?

Who was right in the long term?

Soviet Union 31 15.98%

Nazi Germany 53 27.32%

USA\UK 110 56.70%

Total:194

World wars were some of the biggest conflicts in human history which changed the how the world works in all matters - politically, culturally, soceity, etc.

We look at what the nations were fighting for, what happened and how their predictions followed in the years after the war

Soviet Union

WW2

They wanted communism

They Won

They killed 10million ukranians

Millions more died in gulag

After World war 2

They continued Gulag,more people died

Communism didn't work

Soviet union eventually fell

Cold war against USA

Nazi Germany:

WW2

They were against Communism

They lost

They killed 10m jews and gypsies(very controversial number as no evidence and gas chambers weren't operational)

After World war 2

Communism eventually ended in russia

Banking Systems are failing

Authoritarian germany ended

USAUK

WW2

They Won

After World war 2

Authoritarian colonial Britain lost its influence across the world and never regained it,other European colonies came to an end too

Cold war and Vietnam war against Communism, the same thing Nazi Germany was against

They now have a politically correct world in Europe(European Union) and USA(Media Propaganda and Corporatism) aka Soviet Union(Gulag system) which traps freedom of speech(people can't talk freely about homosexuality, race, etc)

Israel was established

My take

Soviet Union was wrong on all accounts

I think Nazi Germany's original goals(get Germany out of economic depression cause by WW1) were correct but they got confused and there actions to implement it with war and violence was wrong

USA never wanted the war but Britain connections and propaganda brought USA into the war

America is always right.

We (US, UK and ANZEC) should have formed a separate peace with Germany and continued on and crushed the soviets. Would have saved millions of lives in Eastern Europe.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

Wow the OP is sorta twisted. First mistake US/UK lol, you mean the allies, you can't credit the US or the UK with winning WWII and not credit the rest of the allies especially the likes of Canada and the other commonwealth countries.

Then you mention the US was conned into the war due to propaganda. lol Canada joined the war efforts early on and the Germans were operating in the Atlantic Ocean very close to American waters. Germany's ability to crush the remainder of Europe and gain control of large swaths of Africa and the Middle East would have been a death sentence for America. Germany would have obviously pursued America later on if they hadn't been stopped in Europe.

Plus you also are forgetting about the Japanese, the US actually instigated that conflict. The whole Pacific Fleet was stationed in Hawaii and was on stand by for major military action. The Japanese simply launched a pr-emptive strike but the US was poised to intervene there regardless.

The United States in no way was cohursed into the war against their will. It was not only their obligation but in their best interest to defeat both Germany and Japan and later Russia (Cold War). In fact the US took their sweet time getting involved they let millions of people die and tons of their supposed allies get slaughtered before intervening.

Had the US intervened early on with Canada and the other allies the war could have been ended swiftly with millions of people's lives saved. It was there reluctance that allowed Germany to conquer so much of the world. It was always in their best interest to stop Hitler!

Yet another WWII thread where people praise Canada for all of its contributions while nobody gives Austria even the slightest bit of attention

I would like to give a big shout out to Austria ,birthplace of Mozart and some little corporal dude but the Austrians had sense and gave him to Germany.

You can't simply say someone was totally right and someone totally wrong, everything is much more relative.

Wow, I am sorry but this simplification is incredible.
You can't just take the deadliest conflict in human history
and let people vote on who were the "good" guys. You can't treat this like
a question on whether you prefer Ps3 or XBOX.

Tens of millions died and to even give the choice that Germany or the Soviet Union
could be the "good" guys is totally ignorant.

Besides, it misses the whole point. There are seldom wars with "good" vs. "bad" like
in Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. In this case, there were two evil dictators who used the
suffering and economic situation and channeled the hatred and frustration of people
on minorities.
