Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yahoo: Nintendo on list of Companies Where Employees Are Losing Hope

http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work/article/113524/companies-where-employees-losing-hope-247-2

6. Nintendo's once nearly insurmountable lead in the video console sector has been lost, and its sales have fallen further and further behind rivals Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT - News) and Sony (NYSE: SNE - News). The rise of the Google (NASDAQ: GOOG - News) Android operating system has also encouraged video game publishers to make more products that run on that platform. The 2010 market share of Nintendo DS fell from 70% in 2009 to 57%. Nintendo's growth has also been damaged by the rise of the iPad and iPhone. The future is even grimmer. "iSuppli predicts Nintendo will sell 70 million 3DS gaming systems by 2015, a figure that is 21 million less than the 91 million in sales racked up by the original DS at the same point in its sales cycle," according to the Unofficial Apple Weblog. Nintendo announced an unexpected quarterly loss on July 28, and its shares plunged 20%. The stock is down from a 52-week high of 26,780 yen to 11,850 yen. In late 2007, shares reached 80,000 yen.

Also on the list:

1)Best Buy 2) Research in Motion 3) Talbots 4) Hewlett Packard 5) The U.S. Postal Service 7) Cisco 8) Eastman's Kodak

This is a regular feature Yahoo puts out every few months past members include Border's and Blockbuster. I have to say I am truly surprised to see Nintendo on the list, this is ridiculous, I never realized how bad analysts think of Nintendo. I still think they are one of the safer bets when in comes to the videogame industry.

Are the employees of these companies actually polled, or is it simply assumed?

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

I think there is a conspiracy against Nintendo.

Why isn't Yahoo on this list?

Same list as the postal service!?
Now that's just a really low blow....

Seriously though, there is little reason to believe Nintendo will be able to recreate the success they had this gen on both home and portable fronts. There were just as many factors out of their control that made them so big this generation as there were brilliant moves made by the company. Most of all their timing was impeccable, something which surprised even them. Hence, they couldn't sustain growth with their blue ocean strategy for the whole generation.

Just as Nintendo was undervalued during the Gamecube days, so was it overvalued during the height of Wii and DS. The stock needed to come down eventually, but from there to calling gloom and doom on the company and saying its employees are losing hope is asinine!

This is the exact state of mind that will contribute to undervaluing of NTDOY once again, followed by a nice jump in 3 years (give or take) when they end up not doing so terribly after all!
I say we should thank the likes of Yahoo for giving us young, shallow-pocketed investors a leg up on the rest of 'em

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Still not enough. I'd need to ask for the assistance of the Great Kannon to do this
