The day is here. Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection has finally sold one million units, and it only took two years! Now it's time to serve the crow officially.

PS: Seece is back now. Quick, someone go bring him to this page so we can all laugh in his face!

The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection

Global Total as of 16th Nov 2013 (units): 1.00m
Platform: PlayStation 3

UPDATE - April 12, 2013

It's been 1.5 years and the game is 93% done. It only needs to sell about 70k to reach the milestone. Considering it sold 50k this year, I think it's safe to say the game will reach the 1mill mark this year. And that's without considering digital sales, where it likely sold in the tens of thousands - TENS OF THOUSANDS!

Since I don't feel like waiting, I say we celebrate now and laugh in the face of those who once doubted us. See below for the list who doubted.

*Seece is no longer with us. So unfortunately we cannot laught in his face. But he's still here in spirit. So let us laugh in his spirit.

*laughs*

ORIGINAL POST

The game releases September 27th into one of the most packed holiday's ever. Does it stand a chance at cracking one million units?

Shadow of the Collussus has sold 1.01m units so far using VGChartz data, however, the data for EMEAA is missing. I estimate that it sold about 500k there. Using that estimate, Shadow of The Collussus has sold in the 1.5m range world wide. VGC has no data for ICO.

If ICO & SOTC Collection follow the same pattern as God of War Collection, then we can expect it to sell slightly less than Shadow of The Collussus, which is currently at anywhere from 1.2m to 1.7m depending on how much it sold in EMEAA.

Some factors that would affect sales:
- How big will Sony advertise this game?
- How much of a role will internet hype / WOM play into the sales of the game?
- How will the game be recieved by critics?
- How impactful will The Last Guardian be to impact the sales of the Collection?

Warning: rant below

How big will Sony advertise the game?

I have a few reasons for believing Sony will advertise this game well. My first reason: the two previous games are some of the most unique & creative experiences the industry has ever seen. These are games that can make a gamer devoted to a console. Sony has stated multiple times in the past that creativity & quality are very important for them. It would do them good to help convince gamers that the PS3 is the will provide the most unique experiences in the industry.

My next reason is Sony's heavy investment in 3D technology. If there was any game perfect for 3D, Shadow of The Collussus would be that game. This isn't some shooter with 3D thrown in; the entire experience seems like it's made with 3D in mind. Anyone who has played the game can attest to that statement. The one battle with the giant hawk thingy literally left me thinking, "this would be awesome in 3D!" I would say Sony sees this title as a great significance to their lineup this holiday.

How much of a role will internet hype /Word-Of-Mouth play into the sales of the game?

Internet hype will help this game greatly. Internet hype has proved in the past to help niche, PS3 games sell well above people's expectations. Examples include Demon's Souls & Valkyria Chronicles. These games, much like ICO/SOTC, are critically acclaimed, niche games that had virtually no advertising. Yet, both of these games managed to break many expectaions and sell over 1m units.

The two games are pretty well-known amongst educated PS3 owners. Nearly every list that icludes the top PS2 games includes Shadow Of The Collussus & ICO. The reason it's being made in the first place is because it was one of the most asked requests on PSN blog. I would say that a lot of gamers want this title. If Sony gives this game a decent promotion, then I think it has a good shot at cracking one-million.

How will the game be recieved by critics? Using the God of War: Collection as a reference, one can assume that the game will be met with the same or slightly lower reception as the previous titles. This could be true, but Shadow of The Collussus could be a case where the HD version is actually met with more acclaim than the original title. I base this on the original game's framerate issues which did hamper the experience a bit. These problems should be nonexistant in the HD version. All technological issues should be fixed with the HD version.

How impactful will The Last Guardian be to impact the sales of the Collection.

The Last Guardian has been labelled by many sites & gamers as one of the PS3's most wanted exclusives. Those who are interested in TLG are probably informed about ICO/SOTC and will likely want to play them. However, due to the rarity of those two titles, many gamers don't have a chance to play them on the PS2. If one combines all those factors, then it's easy to see how many people are excited for this collection.

Oh and not to mention the Game will be epic fun!

What do you think? Can the game reach a million units?

I dont see it doing that well but i hope it does.

I will definitely buy it, though I've never played the originals. The only thing that kept me from playing them was the graphics. There's so much hype for this collection that I expect at least 1m LT, though I hope for much more.

of course it will do at least that.

Nah it won't.

To make the thread more interesting, I've decided to turn this into a club similar to the Uncharted 3 over Battlefield 3 club.

You seem confident, what's you secret?

according to wiki ico sold 700k with 270k of sales in NA
I feel it should sell around 500k or at the very most 25% of what GOW collection has sold so about 750k and that would be great.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot
