Forums - Music Discussion - Taylor Swift is greater than Bob Dylan

As much as I love Taylor Swift, I'm not sure you can really compare the two. Just becuse you don't happen to like his music, doesn't mean that an artist you favor is greater than him.

I love Bob Dylan's music! Infact, I consider Taylor a cross between The Beatles and Bob Dylan. I just think she crushes him in talent.

Reputation proceeds me, they told you I'm crazy, I swear I don't love the drama it loves me <3

BUY TAYLOR'S NEW ALBUM REPUTATION!!

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. However, I would present a dissenting opinion.

Songs like 'Times they are a changin' and 'all along the watchtower' defined a generation, they show that Bob Dylan is one of the most talented lyricists in the history of music.

'Lay lady lay' and 'stuck in the middle of you' show his musical talent - those who judge Bob Dylan's musical talent based off 'times they are a changin' are missing out on a lot.

I  agree with you on the fact that Taylor can sing better then Bob Dylan, but I'm not sure about who is better at the guitar.

SWift has been around for a relatively short time. There have been tons of musicians and groups that won a ton of awards and sold a lot of albums, only to never be heard from, again. Before she is compared to a legend like Bob Dylan, she's going to have to get a few more years under her belt. We'll see if she's able to mature and adapt. In the meantime, let's just enjoy her music (I only liked Romeo and Juliet, tbh. The rest of her singles didn't really do it for me....then again, I'm probably not her key demographic.) and not turn people against her with unnecessary comparisons.

If she's good, she's good. No need to put somebody else down to build her up.

She's alright, and I agree some of the old bands are over-rated *(cough cough Beatles cough*), but she's not better than Bob Dylan.

Who is Taylor Swift?  Does Taylor have a Weird Al parody dedicated to her the way Bob Dylan does?  I mean HER, not just one of her songs...

Not a Dylan tune. It's one of those songs like 'A Horse With No Name' - many think that America song is done by Neil Young. Anyhow 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' would substitute fine.

I have to agree, though. While not his strength, Dylan certainly not devoid, or even lacking, of some good melodies.

On topic: Nothing against Taylor Swift as I'm not really familiar with her, but from what I had heard of her nothing seems particularly cleverly written. It's seemingly a very, very odd comparison to make.
