Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why no love for Metroid's 25th Anniversary?

Today (August 6) is Metroid's 25th Anniversary. (When the game was released in Japan)

How come Nintendo isn't hyping it up like they did Mario? No games, no E3 prescece, nothing.

Read this IGN article for the full celebration.

Metroid is not as big as Mario or Zelda. It's emblematic to certain segments of Nintendo fans but as Nintendo series go it's very small-time.

who gives a shit if its not as big as Zelda and Mario, it still deserves its own Celebration.

A Nintendo-sponsored one? On what grounds?

Happy Birthday Metroid! I'll celebrate it at least

Because Metroid is honestly not that big a series. The dozen or so games in the series, spanning several genres, have sold 15 or 16 million units since the 80's. That's less than either of the Wii Fit games, Pokemon generations 1, 2, and 4, Super Mario Bros, Land, New, or Wii, and bloody Brain Age. And considering how Other M may or may no ever reach a million sales, I doubt that the anniversary would be a big deal to most gamers.

Love and tolerate.

Right, it objectively doesn't deserve the same level of praise on Nintendo's part

Though they could have made some official acknowledgement...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think we should celebrate it as much as mario or zelda. The metroid series is one of my top 10 and i feel it deserves at least some praise.

Metroid is not as notable as Mario or Zelda but it would be nice to have some special edition.
