someone mentioned in another thread that you should do "blast from the past" with the forum topics as well, that would definetely be appreciated.

I personally am happy with the changes that have been made, although i do seem to be in the minority on that one

Around the Network

1) Do you like the horizontal main menu? No I hate it, I like to see all the submenus at first glance.

2) Would you prefer the sub-menus to be activated on hover? It would be better but the old version was the best.

3) Do you like the new rich text editor? I don't use it, but it tried to add some pictures but I couldn't because we need to set the size, I would prefer an auto-adjusted size that fit the post size.

4) Do you like the idea of a news system where only the most popular stories are shown on the front page? No, sortable colums would be better, "date added" and "pupularity"

5) Do you like popularity to be measured by "votes" or simply by page impressions? I can't vote because I have to register to "digg" something site... But a voting internal-site system would be the best thing I think.

6) Do you like the rich text for news stories (embed videos, flash files, edit layout and colours) or just simple text news stories? Rich ones, but I think the main purpose of this site is sales data and charts, not a news site...

7) Do you plan to add data sales for older years (pre-1995 for exemple)? data is still lacking...

There seem to be mixed opinions regarding some of the new parts of the site. In an attempt to quickly and efficiently figure out what to keep and what to change, here are some simple yes / no points I'd like people to answer

1) Do you like the horizontal main menu?

2) Would you prefer the sub-menus to be activated on hover?

3) Do you like the new rich text editor? If no, then is it the idea of a rich text editor in general or this particular implementation?

4) Do you like the idea of a news system where only the most popular stories are shown on the front page?

5) Do you like popularity to be measured by "votes" or simply by page impressions?

6) Do you like the rich text for news stories (embed videos, flash files, edit layout and colours) or just simple text news stories?

Simple answers to each so we can effectively "vote" and I can make some changes. Any other comments / suggestions also welcome in here

1) yes (if (2) is done, too), no otherwise

2) yes!

3) yes, but it's actually not capable to edit quotes the way i want (delete boxes)

4) ok

5) i think measuring by page impressions is too easily manipulated.

6) dunno, i never posted a news item

keep the editor but modify and improve the quoting function? What is the current problem with quotes - you can delete old quotes or alternatively just reply to a post and not quote it. Should we limit quotes within quotes to, say, 3 or 4? Is there a specific thread where there is a problem with quotes - I thought the system was working quite well

One Problem I had with quotes was: If there's a quote inside a quote (so there's a box inside another box) and i want to delete that box (the one inside the other one) it isn't possible. You can put the focus on the box, but hitting DEL doesn't do anything... This is annoying, because if you only want to reply to the second poster, you have to keep the quoted lines of the first poster.  And also, if you haven't already noticed:I tried to get rid of the centered text in this reply, but it also doesn't work. I cannot format this text to anything else than centered...so there's still a few things which could be optimized with the new editor.

1) I like it.

2) On click is fine, on hover would be a little messy since there's a delay while it loads the images.

3) This particular rich text editor is annoying.  Most of it works pretty well, but the way it handles quotes is just awful, leading to massive quote pyramids and empty quote blocks since people haven't figured out how to delete the table yet.  The way it encapsulates quotes in a table is where the problem lies.  Also it's inconsistent about inserting spaces in front of paragraphs, and backspace often removes multiple characters.

4) All recent news should be shown on the front page whether it is popular or not.

5) Page impressions.  I'm not going to take the time to vote on every bit.

6) Rich text is fine.  Make your news stand out.

You can use digg's system and basically just post the most popular ones at a certain voting threshold as they come, replacing the older ones over time. No view or vote bumps to the top. Start with 5 votes, increasing it over time as more people join in and start to vote.

Also, when you try to edit your posts, the editor removes all the paragraph lines, forcing you to add them back again manually.

it's ok

no

i'm not against those, but this one doesn't work. especially in safari. do you even care for safari users? how about an option in my prefs so i can switch it off.

no

votes, but voting doesn't work in safari...

 I second that. Just keep:

- bold/italic/underlined/strikethrough

- text color/background colour

- link/image/smilies/media/preview

No.  There should either be only a "latest news" section on the front page or both a "latest news" section and "most popular news" section on the front page.

The concept of having a "most popular news" section on the front page is kind of flawed. You just end up having the same news stories up there day-in and day-out.
