Forums - PC Discussion - Battlefield 3, no mod tools

even if it was too complex people can teach them selves with lots of time, effort and trail and error. Many systems are dubbed "Complex" but after time and people getting there hands on it and using it, it doesn't become that complex to many. Also Modders are mainly students studying computer science, computer programming or a games course and people who have some experience in computers development or a really patient and eager to learn person.

I dont get why they dont come out and say "The reason we are not doing mod tools is because we want to sell DLC which people may not buy when mods are avaiable".

Which is a valid but flawed point because people will buy the DLC over mods for several reason:

1. They are on the public servers
2. There are always enough people any time to play them
3. They are of very high quality compared to the average mod.

People will buy the DLC even if there was modding tools avaiable and you can always state that you cannot copy DLC maps or get banned.

See, I can't think of any worthwhile games that had mod tools which had successful "DLC." Usually the few extra maps and stuff and things have always been free in those games.

This is the state of the gaming industry today- and I don't like it.

Time for hype

Im ready to bet that after a couple of months of its release mod tools will be released. They just want to cash in fast with the first wave of DLC, and then they will release it Be patient :D

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

They probably want BF to be a yearly franchise with a Battlefield one year and a Bad Company the next.

That means they need to be able to move people along from game to game which would be hindered by mods increasing a games lifespan.

Very sad news, but expected.

This is the actual interview. It is also interesting to see his whole reaction to the lack of a Commander and tactical approach. It's like he just spewed some random crap he just came up with.

Edit: Alright I fail at embedding anything:

Mod tools will probably come later. Either way I don't care as I never used them or played on a mod.

They'd say they were bringing mod tools later if they were. It's a selling point for the PC version, there's no reason not to mention it. Instead, they completely deny it.

Seems like a really bad decision by them,
complicated as Frostbite 2.0 might be to use, i expect "modders" would be able to overcome the learning curve and make some amazing things with them.

I also expect "modders" to create awsome content with UDK and the Cryengine SDK in the future, i myself love playing with UDK, and hope to release some stuff with it down the line.

I don't make mods personally, but I like to be able to choose mods made by talented modders. Also, it happened several times that tools helped gamer communities to support games by themselves after their devs and publishers went bankrupt: in such cases tools could benefit even people like you that don't care about mods.
