How did Sony sell PS3 at all and how is Sony still selling the PS3 successively if what you say is true?

When PS4 comes out in a couple of years it will be drastically more powerful than Wii U and the many of the big third party developers like Square in Japan, Rockstar, and Bethesda haven't given any indication that they will support Wii U. plus most of the world prefers Sony to Microsft's consoles, so I really don't expect Sony to be in much trouble next gen. They'll continue to get the third party support they always do.

Really, Nintendo is the company that I think will be in the most trouble as they seem to be going after the hardcore with Wii U; however, there's no indication that the biggest third party hardcore titles like the next gen's Elder Scrolls or Fallout game, the next gen's main Call of Duty titles, the next gen's Final Fantasy main series games, or the next gen's Grand Theft Auto will be making Wii U appearances.

Losing those dedicated 3rd parties would happen eventually and it pretty much started with MS. MS paved the way for 3rd parties to make even more money. So why remain exclusive? Nowdays only a few companies can remain exclusive to one side or the other, because not only would they risk losing sales, they would also risk loosing money if the platform they betted on with their exclusives, didn`t sell enough to even profit.

As for Sony`s line-up. It`s evident that none of them, besides GT, is a match to a Halo/Gears of War or Mario/Zelda. But you also need to remember that most of Sony`s franchises you mentioned were created this generation.

Still. even, if Sony`s don`t have that impact per se, they exist in number enough to atract a lot of gamers and that might make up for the impact of Nintendo and MS´s big guns.
However, no one knows where the next Halo or Mario will be born. Could belong to either of them.

Double negative in the thread title. Is that on purpose?

Why do they need to be a Halo or Mario? What Sony just needs to do is with it's development studios it owns release a decent stream of 1st party games for it's system. Most sell well over 1 million, most make a profit.

But like you mention most of the IPs were created this generation. I'm pretty sure next generation, Sony studios will produce many more new IPs for gamers to enjoy exclusively on the new Playstation console.

Hmm, pie.

While Sony has no IP with the same strong sense of identity that Nintendo and Microsoft has with the exception of GT, it DOES have the biggest internal studio lineup of all 3 console manufacturers; a launch menu that carries a GT within the first year as well as a plethora of titles from the like of Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Guerrilla Game will more than keep them competitive.

Think of it this way. If Sony launches the PS4 with a God of War IP, Uncharted IP, Killzone IP. LBP IP etc, would you really scoff at all those brand name simply because individually, they don't have the same power as a Mario or a Halo?

Barring GT, no IP in Sony's arsenal is strong enough to carry a console by itself the way Halo or Mario can, but if Sony plays there card right and consistently support their console with a combination of reasonably popular brand name as well as new IP, then I foresee no issue with the launch of the PS4.

Because of the strength of the PS2. It was assumed by most analysts, even up until late 2008, that the PS3 would be the best selling console, hence developers made games for the PS3. If Sega had released the PS3, developers would not have made games for it.

The PS4 does not have that advantage

Ummm....
Gran Turismo
Uncharted
God of War
Killzone
Little Big Planet
Grand Theft Auto (Rockstar loves Sony)
Final Fantasy (sqaure enix also loves Sony)
Well maybe if you exclude the games I listed above your right.

@Scottie I wouldn't say it needs to. Sony, unlike Microsoft and Nintendo that primarily rely on titles from past gens, has shown that it can create new and compelling content in almost every gen that can keep gamers interested. It's primarily not been the 3rd party titles that have kept the PS3 the best selling console over the past year or so, but interest created by their new games like Heavy Rain, Infamous, Little Big Planet and 2009's Game of the Year Uncharted 2.

Plus, you know, Nintendo has created a certain reputation for the type of games that it really welcomes on its systems over the years, so I would be surprised to see every big name third party title of the next gen make a Wii U appearance, and I would expect more of them to make a PS4 appearance.

ROFL, Xxain.
These titles don't need to be exclusive. They just need to BE there. The array of first party titles are merely a counterweight against other consoles. Same with MS. Since when did MS get lots of 3rd party exclusives? Pretty much never. The 360 is damn successful though.

The console war has long shifted from having third party exclusives to providing the best experiences, having the widest appeal, and yes, first and second party exclusives. While Sony has no killer system sellers outside of GT, they have a great array of games acting as that system seller. And it won't go anywhere next gen.

I genuinely hope that this thread is a joke. Then again, I'm afraid that it's serious.
