I'm nearly certain Vita is already discontinued in the US. Nobody has new ones, even gamestop barely have anything. Luckily games keep coming but I'm slowly accepting this train is nearly at the station. THOUGH, the last time this happened was when we got the slim so who knows.

Yeah, it's always weird to hear this because they're certainly not plentiful in the UK, but you can still buy new ones (mostly LEGO bundle though).

Sadly I just don't see what a new revision can do at this point.  Retailers have lost confidence in the console.  Without games to get it back on shelves, a new revision isn't going to do much.

Not looking great is it? In that case id either go with new platform (more for the East) but their emphasis on mobile makes that seem unlikely. Or full blown discontinuation. But, really... They have some pretty high profile releases in the coming weeks. Very uncharacteristic of the company that traditionally allows its older hardware to plod on as long as there are games being pressed.

Considering the lifespan of their previous consoles, not-even-5-years for Vita would be pretty pitiful, even though I'm sure it'll last slightly longer than that in Japan.

The only way a new model would help, would be if that rumour of gravity rush 2 etc came to fruition.. And it was a new handheld that was fully backwards compatible with Vita. But then also compatible with ps4 to some extent.

Really think the focus on post Pokemon Go mobile puts that one to bed though.

Moero Crystal English isn't happening.

I'm thinking of picking up a used PSP in the near future (next 3-4 months) to play some PSP games I've missed and that aren't available digitally on PSN

1 - Which model do you recommend?
2- Anything I should know about registering devices/downloading games (seeing as how it's no longer supported afaik)

1- I had the fat 1000 and the 3000. The 3000 is miles better, screen looks neat and the grip is much more comforting. But people who tried the PSP Go tend to say it is the best model so far (though doesn't support UMD and PSN is not supported anymore on the platform)

2- Well downloading games legally is not possible anymore. so you should just buy UMDs. In my case finding a UMD now of a game would be like a treasure hunt, so i'd suggest you use a custom firmware and download the games you want over internet, even though i do not encourage such practice but if need be, you don't have much choice. You just need to fully realize that.

Thanks i'll go with 3000. It's slim 3000 right?

Local CEX has some cheap UMDs. Missing some i'd like but i'll look for those elsewhere

So, I feel like it's now or never for Vita.  Well, in two hours.  There's a tiny amount of hope for TGS, but I genuinely think it's going to be a revision (Vita 3000) or discontinuation at this PS Meeting.

I hope it's the former.

Yeah, we're not getting anything at this conference. This is a "our TV division is dying so let's announce a PS4 which will save them!" conference lol

No mention of Vita, just PS4 Slim (replacing PS4) and PS4 Pro.

Is that good or bad?! haha. I suppose it's more positive than discussing Vita today, as would they really want 3 products unveiling at once?#

Trinity at TGS? If not I think it's just going to carry on being a zombie. Still strange that it's not only removed from sale in China (PS4 being completely succeeded by Slim explains that side) but also from SCEE's tech page.

Yeah, it's TGS or bust I guess. Makes sense, it's Vita's strongest market, but still. I'm guessing a gradual phase out. They're not gonna wanna talk about it at any other press conference.

I noticed the image at the end of all the PS hardware (Slim; Neo; PSVR; Move) didn't have a Vita on. Lol.

Anyway, aside from that, I really just don't think I'm the target market for Sony conferences anymore. It's all "this has so many pixels" and "10x more this" and "biggest worlds ever" and such, and none of that interests me. I know sometimes they have indies (not at this conference admittedly), but all the AAA stuff just grosses me out. I have to admit, when I played GTA5 for the first time I was overwhelmed by the world and haven't gone back to it since. It was too big and I wasn't having fun.

It didn't have a PS3 on it either :) (they've definitely not been discontinued yet) It actually had all the hardware confirmed for release in the coming weeks/months on it. As Move is being re-released for VR.

As for the second part. I'm in the same boat. I look at the games they're showing off, and generally think "meh". I am actually genuinely more excited about the NES Mini and being able to play through Double Dragon II legitimately on my TV again with a NES pad than I am any of the big Q4 AAA blockbusters.

Ehh.  I know Vita has another year or so left of life in it, so I'll probably buy the games i'm interested in from that, then see where the land lies after that.  Maybe catch up on the Japanese PS4 games I missed and see where NX is at.
