Yeah, it's always weird to hear this because they're certainly not plentiful in the UK, but you can still buy new ones (mostly LEGO bundle though).
Sadly I just don't see what a new revision can do at this point. Retailers have lost confidence in the console. Without games to get it back on shelves, a new revision isn't going to do much.

They have some pretty high profile releases in the coming weeks. Considering the lifespan of their previous consoles, not-even-5-years for Vita would be pretty pitiful, even though I'm sure it'll last slightly longer than that in Japan.
