Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anyone else absolutely despise the way the industry is moving?

This is all in my opinion by the way, so don't take offence just because I see things differently to you!

It seems everyone is moving towards the more simple, casual side of gaming. I don't want to waggle about, I don't want to actually move about like a douche, I don't want to play £1 games. I simply want to kick back in the evenings on the sofa/bed, and play a few kick-ass core games after a tiresome day. Is that too much to ask?

Nintendo Sure, Nintendo are becoming more core after the casual-fest that was the Wii, but they aren't doing it very well. Slightly better graphics than are available now, a ridiculous controller (I mean who wants to kick back in the evenings and try to manage that thing!), no word on online, and no nice new core games. I know things will get better as games will be developed, but the Wii-U is not going to satisfy core needs very well, because it is a casual console at heart. Even the white design of the console and controller, is not appealing to me.

Microsoft Microsoft used to be right down my street. There were good core games, the controller is good, etc. The only reason why I didn't get one was for RROD. Anyway, it seems this Microsoft is gone. They know the big bucks lie elsewhere. I can only see a big Kinect focus on the 720. In such a case, I'm out.

Sony Seemingly my only hope. Great core games all year round, good controller and a nice online interface. The PS3 console looks sexy, it looks like something a man would own. But even Sony have been moving away from their 'beast' ways. Move - Piss off. Vita looks ok, but it will still have tons of little silly cheap games and I'm not really into handhelds. So if the PS4 is motion-focussed, or goes casual, there's nothing.

I fear the core twilight years are over. Core games sell a few million copies and cost millions to develop. The casual stuff sells more and is much cheaper, so the industry will no doubt follow the money. I need one out of the 3 companies to just focus on the core, and I can't see it happening. Damn.

Yeah count me in.
And what pisses me off most is that even if someone makes good orginal game it can then spend months or years waiting for translations or release in your region.

I agree. If every game isn't aimed directly at me and my demographic with laser like focus, I become cranky and often soil myself in rage.

That's not my point.

My point is that I want a hardcore system, I don't care if there are one or two casual titles on it.

It seems we'll get casual systems, with some hardcore games on them. I don't want that!

Hehehe, I really enjoyed that OP

I think we're still getting enough core games to be happy... If I think about just three of the games I'm getting the rest of this year:

Ico Collection
MGS Collection
Uncharted 3

Then that's more than enough to keep me very entertained.

But I get your point, especially how MS have done a 360 in the last 2 years.

I'm not sure what you're angry about. Basically all Nintendo showed was a funny controller and a bunch of PS360 games, so even they are acknowledging that they can't afford to ignore that demo anymore. What exactly is a "hardcore" system? Something with a traditional controller?

Don't you mean 180? Or was that supposed to be one of those "Don't think about it... it'll make sense" jokes?

I thought no-one would pick up on that... That was pretty quick! WD

It's funny, because with all the talk of handhelds being doomed, handhelds really shone this E3. Nintendo's conference was completely clownshoes, but they showed a lot of awesome 3DS games that I am extremely excited for. I have always been a big hater on the PSP, but I was sold on Vita by Sony's conference.

I know some people weren't impressed by Sony's conference, but it was exactly what I wanted to see. There may not have been many huge surprises, but it was solid core game after solid core game. Microsoft was pretty much what I expected, a few good looking non exclusives, Halo, and a bunch of garbage. I was firmly in the Xbox camp at the beginning of this gen, but Sony is just destroying them now. If the Party system and cross-game voice chat they showed off for PS Vita makes its way to PS3, which I can't imagine that it won't, I don't see a single reason to even own an xbox at all, personally.

I'm a lifelong Nintendo fan, and I want to love them more than anything, but they really did a disservice with their Wii U presentation. A bunch of talk about a controller that appears stupid, no mention of online, no mention of a projected launch lineup, and a bunch of footage lifted from other systems. Yawn.

If you don't like handhelds, I can see how this E3 left you disappointed, but I don't think there is anything to worry about. I mean, Sony showed that they can increase focus on motion controls and still provide a lot of core game experiences with a traditional controller, Nintendo is doing what Nintendo has been doing for a few years, and even Microsoft, who have clearly gone all-in on the casual market, showed some core games in their conference. Traditional games are never going to die, and I think some developers are finally figuring out how to at least integrate the new control schemes into core games. The voice integration on Mass Effect 3 looked great, MediEvil for Move looked really good, etc. The kind of games you (and I) like to play aren't going anywhere, regardless of whether there is more casual stuff being released or an increased focus on alternate control schemes.

Hmmm I agree that E3 wasn't really hot... but come on no core gaming available anymore..... when was the last time you entered a game stop ????? XB and PS never had that huge of a library with tons of quality core games..... I can see why peeps complain about the E3 this year but saying that the HD consols are shifting casual with no core gaming just because you don't see 20 min gameplay trailers of an exclusive FPS, RPG, or action adventure game is a big stretch.....

if you have time and money to play everything core to come this year and in the years to come on day one you have to tell me your secret.....
