Forums - Gaming - L.A. Noire and the movie-like video games

a lot of popular games had movie like posters, i've seen a bunch of Homefront ones in london underground, a lot of people thought it was a movie, it doesn't even show the usual console logos in the bottom.

what is funny is that its in the UK and the game is set in the US , and it says at the bottom "Fight for your homeland" or something like that, and has a british looking guy in the poster, i guess everyone home is the US nowadays

Around the Network

Well, I've been playing video games since the early 80's.  Whil I honed my skills in games like Super Mario and Gradius, I welcomed games with cinematics (Ninja Gaiden, Astyanax).  Well, the early 80's was a long time ago.  While I can still hang with the youngsters in games like Street Fighter, and such, I find myself having a harder and harder time surviving in games like Call of Duty (I got a message from a little kid about a week ago that said "U R Lame and Gay") or Splosion Man.

I'm getting old.  This morning, I played L.A. Noire.  I really enjoyed the couple of cases I solved.  Video games are my first true love and I want to play them forever.  Games like Heavy Rain, Sam and Max, L.A. Noire, and several others just show me that there will be games that can suck me in and give me joy no matter how old I am or how good my skill level is.  Plus, I work a lot.  It's good to have a game that I can play while laying under a blanket on Sunday morning without worrying about dying every ten seconds.  Just like there's a place for the "Hardcore games" (which I still enjoy), there's a place for dancing games, puzzle games, party games, and THANK GOD, there's a place for cinematic games.

L.A. Noire is awesome! I just found a blog that's giving out the DLC for all the extra cases!

I just got my Slip Of The Tongue Case DLC, but I don't know if there's anymore DLC codes left. If you want to check it out, here's the site:

ROFL

OT: The thing I like most about cinematics games is the atmosphere they bring is unmatched in other media formats. Playing a survival horror game is 10x scarier than watching a horror film these days imo

Also, since you spend so much following the game's story (vs. 1-2 hours for a movie) really makes you grow attached to the characters and world. I usually feel sad near the end of games like that, that rarely happens in a movie for me

That and game stories and world are about 100x more epic than the average movie plot/setting

I doubt stories like those of games like Tales of Symphonia and Kingdom Hearts could be found in a movie/on tv
