Forums - Gaming Discussion - L.A. Noire was once a six-disc game on Xbox 360

L.A. Noire on Xbox 360 filled six discs at one stage in development, according to Team Bondi's Brendan McNamara via OXM. PlayStation 3 hardware is stronger for large games.

It took "miraculous compression" to fit the well-padded detective sim onto three discs, McNamara revealed. "We've always been called stupidly ambitious," he reflected. "Along with Rockstar we make very big games."
"It took a lot of effort to get down to three discs - I think we were on four or five or six at one point - and to get it onto one Blu-ray [for the PS3 version]. We're pretty pleased that we got it down to that in the end.

The PlayStation 3 version offers additional content all on one Blu-ray.

Yeah, he must be so angry at them damn Xboxes, that showing a picture of a PS3 must be an easy way to calm down the undeniable rage.

Seriously, the thread has just started and the discussion has already been taken right off topic.

OT: This is starting to become an issue, Team Bondi are only one of the bunch of developers that have come out and mentioned this already and multi-platform games on multiple disks have become much more frequent in the last couple of years. If a game like L.A. Noire needed to be compressed by that much, I'd imagine that other games in the past would have done the same to just fit on a single disk. Hell, if Platinum struggled to put a five hour game on to the 360 on a single disk, then I can't imagine how hard it would have been with a game like Red Dead.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

It's not hard if you reuse assets. Or look at Demon's Souls. I think that game would fit nicely on one dvd, yet play time is extensive. On the other hand, yes, creating many gigantic and diverse sets will take more space.

But reuse of assets is so last generation, is not? You can't forget that L.A. Noire almost turned to vaporware and now we just know why...

Yea 6 discs is kinda insane, im not even sure if Microsoft would of allowed Team Bondi / Rockstar to release a 6 disc game and the end result was a substantial amount of content was cut. I guess i can't complain too much since we will still see the content it just became the pre-order bonuses / first round of DLC from what i have heard.

6 x DVD was uncompressed material - it's 3 x DVD when compressed. Nothing was cut.

I dont Fking care. Only PS3 fanboys...
