Forums - PC Discussion - Is my motherboard failing?

Might as well try to ask here instead of making a forum account on some tech website. Anyway. Starting today, when I turn on my computer it powers on, but my monitor says that there is no input and my keyboard and mouse don't work. I know this because the lights that normally light up don't. My speakers do seem to work though. To fix this problem I need to unplug my power cable for around 10 seconds. Then my computer will work fine for a few minutes to a few hours and then freezes. Then I need to unplug the cord for 10 seconds and plug it back in again for my monitor to recognize the input and for the mouse and keyboard to work. Its just a vicious cycle...

When I turn on my computer and everything works it makes a beep noise a second after it powers on. If it doesn't make the beep noise nothing but the speakers work, but the actual computer still seems to turn on. Is there a way I can find out if its my motherboard failing or if its something else.

Sorry i can't give you some answers citizen it could be hard drive error,CPU error or the motherboard i'm not sure. Go to tom's hardware you can get some great help with your computer problem there.

Anyone who's breaking the law is obvious a criminal.

sounds like a problem with your power supply

you can check individual components of your mother board if you want though, things like going to system and making sure your mother board is reading all of your ram

its probably your power supply though, you should try and find a friends or something that you can plug into your computer to try it out

also, if you have a power switch on the back of your case you could just flip that instead of unplugging, probably more convenient and it accomplishes pretty much the same thing.

I'll second that it is the power supply. You should be careful as when the PS goes it can take other parts with it. I would try to not use your Computer unti you can get it checked out.

yeah... i'm no expert but having to unplug the comp for a set amount of time seems to be to discharge some static charge or something ^^. You're gonna have shorts if you continue using that comp (again i'm no expert and probably just imagine things :p)

Failing PSU ... try removing some of the load especially if it is burdend failing that borrow another one (A good one though)

Failing HDD ... run a disk scan or check for smart messages during post
