Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The wii might have a problem

Just an FYI to anyone noticing that their batting/tennis swing seems off, make sure you set your HDTV to "Game Mode".

I presume its an LCD as well - as I mentioned in a few other threads, the Wii looks heaps better on a Plasma. Metroid looks gorgeous on my TV (as does Galaxy :>).

I have seen some people saying this, and I'm not doubting them, but I don't understand why a Plasma would be better than a LCD for the Wii. Aren't both technologies based in the same idea of fixed pixels?

Is it because Plasmas generally have better upscaling algorithms?

By nature there should be no difference. The difference comes in that LCD's support smaller sizes and thus have more bargain basement types with poor algorithms and wider pixel pitches. Actually between my LCD and my friends Plasma my LCD produces a better picture... it comes down 90% to the TV's quality and the pannels quality, if you buy a cheap one expect a cheap product. The only major difference in them is LCD's don't handle color as well as Plasmas because of their nature they tend to lean to a blue shade but it's easy to correct in setup(though it'll never be 100% perfect) and Plasmas consume a lot more energy.

I had a solution to this guys problem but you all seem to have straightened him out within just a few posts. This seems to suggest that the internet can indeed be used for something other than porn!

Just to warn you, because you went with an LCD instead of a Plasma you are going to experience jaggies in your Wii games (even with component cables). I've noticed a major difference when playing my Wii on an LCD and Plasma in the amount of jaggies there are. The Wii arguably looks worse with component cables on a Plasma than with composite, but on an LCD it's gorgeous.

Did you get that mixed up or did you mean that you should use composite cables when you have a plasma? I have a plasma so I'm not concerned about how it looks on LCD.

Well I normally dont start threads, but I recently bought a nice 42"1080p sony bravia HD TV. I hooked up my xbox 360 to see how it looked and I was amazed it was just godly, well when I hooked up my wii the menu looked a little streched out. When I started playing metroid prime 3 it looked how should I say not as good as on the Standard television.

I didnt think it would be a problem but, it actually is.  My eyes were literally hurting. PLaying Super mario galaxy looked extreemly pixalated. So I disconnected my wii and went back to my Xbox 360.

This might be a HUGE problem for nintendo in the next couple of years. As more people start to upgrade to HD.

Ive had an HDTV since august of 06, and my Wii has never given me a problem. It's not as extreme as you make it out to be.

I see no reason for component cables to make the image worse, unless you're one of the people who prefers the blurriness of 480i mode vs 480p.

If that's the case, you can still set your Wii to 480i mode even if you're using component cables (which you should be), and by doing so you can keep the better color quality that the component cables offer.

I used to have a Plasma set (before my house just "burned down") and it's insanity to use composite cables instead of component cables...
