I see no reason for component cables to make the image worse, unless you're one of the people who prefers the blurriness of 480i mode vs 480p.

If that's the case, you can still set your Wii to 480i mode even if you're using component cables (which you should be), and by doing so you can keep the better color quality that the component cables offer.
