Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Cave story 3D preview

Was wondering how this would look in the 3DS. Looks very rough in some parts, though it is still a WIP maybe these improve in 3D, at least Egg Corridor does look better.

Well my money is set for this now..

Former something....

Looks ugly in my honest opinion.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Don't like it as much straight away, but I bet they'll be some changes between this and the actual finished product. I'm also reserving judgement for the new content and the 3D effect, so I'm not writing it off yet!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

This whole project seems... misguided.

The only way I can see this game benefitting 3D is the secret hell level and I guess every major boss in the game because of all the things moving around during the time but this is limited to it being a side scroller. If this is just a port of the original free cave story game for pc that is about 6 hours long plus a couple of downloadable contents then it better not be over 20$..... It would be nice for a on the go Cave Story player but a netbook would be enough already.... : /

Only if it had downloadable cave levels with up to 4 players multiplayer and a variety of difficulties should it be priced more expensively. I can see a 4 player Cavestory call of duty/left 4 dead zombie-cave level being done really well too....

I am still planning on buying this on WiiWare.  I played the demo and liked it, I just haven't had the gaming time to justify buying it.  I know I only played the demo, but that art direction doesn't seem to fit with what I saw.  That has a very strange look to it.

I'm with the others. I'm not opposed to the idea of a 3D Cave Story, but this just doesn't look that great, and with the release date being a mere 3 months away, I can't see it looking that much better by release. I still have a bad feeling that Nicalis is putting this game out too soon; not only did the original Cave Story get its first official western release just last year, but the dev team behind that and the 3D version isn't the most reliable when it comes to bug-testing and quality control.

They can't go too wrong with Pixel onboard, but I don't see this surpassing the 2D version just yet.

OK guys, what about Mimiga Village?

I dunno... somehow the doors seem hidden to me.

PS: I meant in the OP that the Egg Corridor looked better than the other screens shown.

This doesn't look that great. And I agree if I didn't already have the wiiware version I probably couldn't even tell where I could even go. I was excited about this but the more screenshots I see the more disappointed i get.
