probably they will make the wii 150 and bundle it with a mario game, that will sell like pancakes even is there are not many hot games coming, probably the day that the E3 starts, so june 7

Probably this:

  • 3DS launches, great success
  • E3 occurs, Wii2/redesign is announced
  • Price cut few weeks after E3
  • SS few weeks after Price Cut, bundled with "gold Wii"
  • Special Edition Wii out in Holidays (Zelda 1 installed, bundled with SS)
  • Re-design is released
  • Wii Relax (vitality sensor) and another game (Pikmin 3? NSMBWii2?) released around mid-november, kills COD effect
  • Launch new Wii around about May 2012
  • Cut price of current Wii to $99 August 2012
With this, I can see the Wii selling around 20mil this year, and around 15mil the next, without hurting sales for 3DS or Wii2.

But Squilliam, haven't you heard that marketshare matters more than mad profits?

I don't think a $50 price cut is really needed, well not as much of a price cut.  I think a $20 drop in price could do wonders as well.  However, I don't think Nintendo will lower the price for the Wii until September to ensure another great holiday season.

Hmm.

I'd expect a price cut in early September to close out Q3. Their last October NPD (220k?? I dont remember) was fairly low in comparison to 2009.

The Wii's hardware sales are completely dependent upon software though. Zelda will be big, but its potential to push hardware doesn't seem too likely to happen for long.

The Wii's sales are good considering right now, but when you look at the YOY percentage...its terrible. Now granted, when you look at Wii sales relative to the Gamecube, its Christmas at  double the price with boatloads  of more software selling.

Nintendo has to Respond, not React.
