Forums - Sales Discussion - worst losses on console (xbox vs xbox 360 vs ps3)?

Which console has lost the most money for the company?

How many people think PS3 or 360 can eventually profit?

I am not sure if 360 is still in the red, but I do not know where to find this stuff out.

THe 360 has been posting profits for years now...

THe PS3 just started making profit so it'll be a while before they earn their money back but with the great sales the PS3 has seen lately it should start making up for the massive losses it had early on.

The original xbox was an absolute disaster financially, though the 360 is already well on the way of recouping those costs.

I think its PS3

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

It's all very shady, but since X360 launched the ED division has lost 750 mill.

EDD lost 4.2 billion through the life of Xbox

Sony lost 5 bill since PS3 launched with PSP and PS2 supposively profiting ...

There is no way to determine this accurately.

Sony managed to run billions of dollars in the red with the PS3 despite having a profitable PS2 and PSP business.

The Playstation division lost something like 2 billion in 2007 and 1 billion in 2008. Ps2 and PSP would have to be profitable in 2007 and 2008 so only god knows howmuch PS3 lost on top of that to get them a 3 billion dollar loss in 2 years. My guess that specific PS3 loss was actually somewhere around 6-7 billion from 2006 to 2009, during which PSP and PS2 profitable sales softened the blow.

Xbox 1 as well is a sad story. They lost money and that hardware from day 1 to the last console made.

360 is not too bad, if it didn't have RRoD, it would be actually quite a profitable console.

Also what about blu-ray sales.  if a person otherwise would not have gotten a blu-ray player, you can't really quanitfy that.  and winning the blu-ray war.

I don't think anything else in the EDD has been a massive success up until now (WP7) other than 360. So it's likely the 360 is verging on being a profitable venture. This time next year it'll be well in the black.

I'm pretty sure the 360 though is already profited.  The ED has lost 750 million but its pretty well documented stuff like Zune were posting huge losses which I think is reflected in the loss numbers.

well at the end of the gen the answer to this question will probably be the first xbox, since I doubt Sony will make any new losses with their PS3 from now on.

Before we connclude this, lets wait to see what the lawyer billable hours fees are going to be for the piracy lawsuit :)
