They don't make them anymore. They sold the Kuro tech to Panasonic.
I have a P42G20B and the picture is fantastic.

I knew they didn't make any new models any more, but I didn't know they sold the tech to Panasonic. I have a 42" Kuro (don't recall the model name) and I love the picture. I have looked at quite a number of LCDs and LEDs, and at least those I have seen are nothing like it. In addition to he Kuro, I have in another room a Panasonic Vierra P42A20M (not a US model, so I don't know how it compares to the P42G20B) and while I am very happy with it, in my opinion the Pioneer Kuro I have is even better in certain aspects of the picture... What I do know though is that after I got used to Plasma, there is no going back for me to LCDs in the same price range.

My, brother works for an hi-fi and video specialized magazine; they do a lot of TV testing and comparison.
From what they say, Panasonic Viera while is more expansive has a better picture quality overall in most cases, expecially if applied for 3D. however the most important thing is that the screen is made with better and more durable materials, also construction quality is better compared to samsung. In the end samsung is still a great product but ,differently from the Panasoinc, it's not made to last many years.

From what I can find your Panasonic has a screen res of 1024x768 so this may be one of the main differences between this and your Kuro(I assume it's a 1920x1080 screen).
Well I bought a 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma last year (2D) and I've been loving it! The model is TH-P42V2, though I'm not sure if they released it outside of Japan. It just blew away my old 32" LCD tv. Excellent picture quality and I've had no problems with it this past year.

Now, I had a 46" Toshiba about three weeks ago. I walked into a furniture store to pay my GF's bill and I saw the Toshiba running "How to Train Your Dragon" and I grabbed it right there on the spot. It was about $1700. I got home and some of the luster wore off. I only had component cables so the picture wasn't as good as I was hoping over my previous LCD. I took it back the next day. I definitely wanted an LED, though. I wound up narrowing my choices to an LG LED HDTV with internet access and such and the Vizio LED HDTV that I posted above.
Little things like Picture in Picture (I can play 360 at the same time my kid is playing Wii!) are what put the Vizio ahead. It was cheaper, and the picture and the options were stunning! My sister has a plasma and a 360 hooked up to it (can't remember the brand.) and when I first saw it, I wanted to punch my TV. Her plasma blew my LCD away! Now, it's not even a competition which TV has the better picture quality. And with Four HDMI ports, three USB ports (for watching video/pics/music from my cell, HDD, and digital camera), PC connections, and a few other intangibles, I love this TV. Vizio has a reputation for making very good TV's for a low price. I can't say anything bad about this TV. Just make sure you customize your audio options to your liking or use a sound bar. The default settings have too much bass.
Oh, quality HDMI cables are a must!
Panasonic. Did alot of research before i bought my TV and last year's top of the range Panasonic (VT range) was rated the best TV of the year by a good number of publications that I came across.
Reasons: best blacks, excellent colours, best for motion, best 2D picture, best 3D picture, relatively low latency(good for gaming)
If you are looking for negatives, there is some truth to the fact that Plasmas are more suited to darker rooms, but the newest models are more than bright enough for most rooms and of course they tend to use more power the LCD/LEDs. While you can get temporary image rentention (only noticeable when you turn off the TV), burn in really isn't much of an issue with newer plasmas, having said that it wouldn't be using one as a computer monitor. Also while the TV looks quite good, it's nowhere near as sexy as the Samsung and Sony LEDs.
Overall though I would have no hesitation recommending a Panasonic plasma, they really are very good.
I have a 50inch panasonic viera plasma. It's 4 years old now and the blacks have pretty much faded to grey. If you don't use the zoom in setting all the time the side bars will show for an hour or so after you go back to widescreen. The picture where the side bars were is darker then in the middle until it fades to the same grey again. (probably when it warms up)
I have a 5 year old 1080p 52inch sharp aquos as well, and the picture is still perfect. My next tv will definately be lcd or led, not plasma.
i think your fine with either. both samsung and panasonic i have had only perfect products and they are neither as expensive as some name brand and of to me it seems higher quality
and good choice on the plasma over lcd, much smoother picture.
