I have a 50inch panasonic viera plasma. It's 4 years old now and the blacks have pretty much faded to grey. If you don't use the zoom in setting all the time the side bars will show for an hour or so after you go back to widescreen. The picture where the side bars were is darker then in the middle until it fades to the same grey again. (probably when it warms up)
I have a 5 year old 1080p 52inch sharp aquos as well, and the picture is still perfect. My next tv will definately be lcd or led, not plasma.
