As part of my ongoing quest to please Beuli2, I am going to be doing a regular series of threads called "against the grain", bringing up news stories which are either overlooked or too big to miss...
However, I have received many messages from users who have commented on how much they enjoy this series. If I can just do that with this writing, then that's important to me. One day, I am to become a writer for this site, or another. I didn't really enjoy it beforehand, but I've been getting quite into it now!
Not so much a news story this, but to celebrate Christmas, I thought I'd go for something just a little bit different. I noticed on RainbowYoshi's recent Newcomer of the Year competitions, that when he decided to make it, he received a lot of criticism about how "this year has been rubbish for newcomers" and how "this is the worst year yet!"
I have to disagree. Otherwise, it wouldn't be "against the grain". I feel as though there's been a lot of people joining the site, more than you may imagine. I joined at the end of August, and there have been 2,500ish people who have joined this site since then. The images above is just a handful of people who I believe COULD become great, respected posters on this site in a few years time. No particular order, just the order I came across your name. (If you would like to be added, just let me know)
All these users have done much for this site, but here's some examples;
- RainbowYoshi designed the "newcomer of the year!" competiton, which is an excellent idea.
- Mr T-Tar has made 31 forum threads since he started around 6 months ago
- Immortal has only ben on the site for 4 weeks, ye has already produced a very-nicely, thought out thread, as well as posting logical comments in other threads
- I have produced many threads, including this series, "success or failure?", Not-quite official GOTY awards, and which console has been/will be best for this year and next, and many others
- Rob-ot only joined 2 weeks ago, but has already made himself heard on te site, and created his own thread
I could go on for a long time about every single person whose profile picture is up there, but you get the idea. This year, in my eyes, has been amazing for this site, and there will be a lot of heavy-posters from that list in the future.
