Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy XIII outsold Final Fantasy XII

Both are pretty bad

FFXIII is terrible. I didn't care fore XII but XIII is probably the worst game in the series.

No.  Disagree.

I think BOTH games (while I enjoyed them both) take away from what was the Final Fantasy Experience.  Both had characters that almost ruined the game (Vani from FF XIII and Vaan/Penelope from FF XII).  They both had very mediocre stories.  Hell, FF XIII feels COMPLETELY incomplete as far as Im concerned.  Both tried to change a WINNING formula.

FF needs to go back to its roots.  Bring back the good ol' battle systems that were the backbone of older FF games.  Bring back old style of experiece (license points? Crystalium? not needed).  All the games from FF 1-10, took a winning forumla and tweaked it (some did a better job than others) but they still tried to stay true to what was FF.  FF XII/XIII tried to completely change that forumla and I think they lost way to much of what made FF great in that change.

Just checked, and yep, SE is publishing it. Apparently, the original team is working on it.

I love Matsuno.

Well, I guess I phrased the question wrong :P. Aren't the people from quest(the people that made the original) a team in Square Enix now, didnt SE buy them? Does that mean Matsuno's working for Square Enix again? Or just one project? or no one knows :P? I'm confused >_> . I could be wrong, because SE is confusing D:

SE did acquire Quest, but I think this a one time thing for Matsuno. Hopefully, this causes him to rejoin Square and make FFXV.

2 against 1 wtf did you expect

Honestly it makes me so upset that FF12 turned out the way it because Matsuno left the project, it should've been so much more. i hope that Tactics Ogre is the first of many new projects, and yes imo Matsuno is the only man i believe can make FF shine again - after the Call of Duty/Lost/Leonia Lewis inspired FF13!!

Completely disagree.

Final Fantasy XIII deserved every single sale it got. It's the best RPG this generation hands down. It's one of the greatest games in the series and one of my top 10 all time games. Why?

- One of the best stories.

- One of the best cast of characters.

- hands down the best battle system in a JRPG EVER.

- Hours upon hours of open world exploration and post-game missions.

- Best graphics I have ever seen an JRPG. And I mean this both artistically and technologically.

Now when I say FFXIII has the best battle system most people tend to not understand just how much better it is. There is so much stuff going on at the same time. All of my characters have maxed out the Crystarium and have the best armor and accessories. Each has their use in a battle. However, I can still get destroyed if I don't approach a fight properly. With old JRPG's, you could reach this level of untouchableness. With FFXIII, the battles never get boring and you're constantly coming up with new ways of doing things.

Also, the fact that FFXIII has passed FFXII in sales also serves as a slap in the face of those who have constantly been nagging about the 360 version. People put their fanboy biases in the way when they play video games. They tried to say that the 360 vesion of FFXIII would cause the game to be dumbed down and wouldn't even sell well. Guess what? The game ended up being one of the best in the series and became the best selling JRPG ever on the 360.

Case closed. FFXIII FTW.

I agree on the all-round awesomeness that was FFXIII!!!  Although I haven't played XII.

But whilst acknowledging these things are largely subjective, but Mass Effect 2 annihilates FFXIII!!!!  I also think Valkyria Chronicles was a much better JRPG.

A 2 min Leona Lewis song at the end of FF13 means she "inspired it"?

Now you have started to make lies up about FF13....doing the same to Kitase wasn't enough?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I actully made a huge thread about this a while back, but this is WHY FF13 doesnt even compare to FF12:

here we have the same non-sense that is repeated in every cutscene, Snow & Serah, and the fact every cutscene is focused on repeating this same plot point again and again, the cutscenes never move foward they just stay in the same place never developing the story only developing the characters. and the characters suck, they are unreleastic and lightning is far too hormonal. and the cutscenes always talk about the same thing, l'cie, f'al cie, cocoon, they never explain any of this, just repeat the same thing again and again.

here we have just an ordinary cutscene from FF12. comparatively Matsuno has developed the characters who have a very realistic tone, while still alluding to the dark undertones of the story and we are left with a rich tapestry of story based drama which are heros are woven into - instead of just hormonal teenagers and teen tantrums!!!

I'm not sure I'm qualified to agree or disagree, because the sum total time I spent on FFXII would beabout an hour (XII was the one with blitzball, right? If the answer is no, then my total time is 0 hours)

However, I didn't particularly like FFXIII This is not to say it's a bad game, certainly it has appealed to millions and most people seem to be happy with it. It just isn't the right RPG for me. I prefer something much more open world, with greater customisability in your characters and mroe control of the combat. Infact, the only time I play computer RPGs is when my friends are too busy to play Dungeons and Dragons.

- Or gurps, which I have recently gotten into. The rules are excellent, as long as you dont try to break them. My first character could run at a significant fraction of the speed of light, whilst wearing a mech suit. He could kill anyone who wasnt wearing a mech suit simply by running into them. My second character could, if he spent an hour casting a spell, set every single person in the world, permanently on fire. Third character is good, and not so broken :)

After playing something like DnD or Gurps, the small amount of customisation and non-linearality in FFXIII is just not enough.

I think Kitase has stated that FF13 was inspired by Call of Duty and Lost, and i dont even care that Leonia Lewis is in the game, but WTF does this have to do with FF. why has FF turned into THIS:
