Forums - PC Discussion - How about this for my new gaming pc

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+Pavilion+p6520y+Desktop+%26+20%22+LCD+Monitor+Package/9999133000050015.p?id=pcmprd133000050015&skuId=9999133000050015&st=hp&lp=5&cp=1

Then, I will go ahead and buy  a seperate graphics card. Does this sound like a good idea?

The processor is terribly slow for gamming, i wouldn't recommend anything less then a i5 or phemonom II x4

I have an overclocked E8400 and I can play Crysis (and every other game) on the highest settings.

This CPU is good enough for gaming methinks.

Not futureproof, but good enough for the next... 3 years or so.

e8400 is way more powerful then athlon II

I have a E6400 and can play Crysis on med-high setting @ 1080p. I'm not sure if it's my CPU or GPU that's preventing me from playing on full high settings because my resolution is so sick. Oh, and no overclocking here, hasn't seemed necessary yet.

Motherboard is ok, ram is more than enough, processor isn't that fast but adequate for current games. Power supply is 250w, which is wholly inadequate. I can't believe how expensive that computer is given the specs, but that's what you get for a prebuilt from a big box store.

I know l mentioned this in another thread, but aren't there any smaller businesses where you live that fix/build computers? Seriously -- I know you don't want to buy online, but surely one of these places could build you a decent PC that would be suitable for gaming. I live in a fairly small city of 200k people and there are a half dozen shops that stock PC components and build PCs. With a little legwork you could actually find something worth buying.

I agree with ameratsu's assessment and idea.

You really could save a lot of money with that. You could put together that computer with Windows for about $400 from online stores or by getting an independent shop to build it for you.
