Forums - Sony Discussion - How to play with the Dualshock instead of a Nav. controller

Okay, I hear a lot of people going "We need to buy Navigation Controllers for the complete set", "You can't play with the DS3 instead, it's useless!", "OMG, look at how much this costs when you have to buy all these Navigation controllers!" and what not.

This is not a thread for discussing the price of the Move and what have you. This is ONLY for discussing the Dualshock vs. the Navigation Controller, so don't change the topic to something about how you think motion controls suck, or you think Sony releases overpriced peripherals.

This thread here is made to tell how you can use the Dualshock instead of a Navigation Controller without saying "Gawd, I need a Navigation Controller, I can't play for two minutes without getting cramps!", a way that actually works then.

That there is the solution. Rest the controller on your knee and have the Move in the other hand. It is actually a decent way to do it, believe it or not!

Feel free to come with more suggestions.

Thats genius, anyone who says it would give them cramps come on man it weights nothing. Do you have hands forged with play dough or something else as weak

This is when to get the SIXAXES out again! Anyway, I will probably get one navigation controller myself

Also, did you get this from the Eurogamer article, where Richard Marks actually said that this was the thing to do?

I have no issue what so ever holding up the controller with one hand without using my knee.

Q: Why did SONY (makers of the DS3) design and release the NAV?

A: Because using the DS3 as a NAV is uncomfortable.

If Sony them selves think so then so will the vast majority.

If you want MOVE just buy a NAV and do it properly.

So this "free" alternative is complete junk and should be totally disregarded despite actually working?

I'm gonna get a Navigation Controller, just because it's better, but I could actually play with the DS3.

Every PS3 owner has a DS3/sixaxis...

So why, if this works well, did sony create the NAV?

You are right to get the NAV.. If I get MOVE I will get a NAV.. not doing so is cheap and silly.

I said "free", because it's only free so long as you have enough controllers.

I'll just repeat what I said in the other thread: "...but using the DS3 isn't bad enough to make me buy a Nav controller if I have just one Move game that uses it, for example. If I'm short on money, I still don't have to buy a Nav controller, because the DS3 will do well enough."

Sony created the Nav controller because playing with the Dualshock wasn't optimal. But it still works well enough to be a viable alternative when you take price into account.

If I get a game that uses the Move Nav combo and supports local multiplayer, I'm not getting a second Nav controller. I'll just use a DS3 if the need arises.

does sub controller have motion functions??

If it does then it will most likely be better cause DS3 motion sensors are bad.

at best it will be used by a mate being player 2,

say if i bought two of the wand things for boxing game, and only one nave for myself, Using the sixaxis/DS3 would be handy for the unexpected guest

Mobility, money, feels more natural, easier, works better with gameplay, its been done before with Nintendo so people recognize it, competitive approach, estetics, add ons etc etc. So i doubt Sony did it just because its uncomfortable, and "if Sony themselves thinks so" is not a fact.
