They will do their annual powerpoint show where they just go through slides after slide pointing out how many ps3's they've sold and they are going to break it down in to demographics by age and other criterias. They will talk about their growth and the playstation family blah blah blah. Afterwards they are going to tout their past success with the ps2 and ps1 and go through the figures for those. Then they are going to show a bunch of titles for the psp and ps3 to get everyone excited most won't be released this year but they are going to give vague release dates for some of them like winter or fall 2010 which of course are going to get delayed. They will show games that are years away from being released as well but give the impression that they are far along in development and you won't hear about them for months to years after that. When that is out of the way they will get to Move which is just a Wii rip off. Oh yeah they will periodically show game montages of the ps3 and move games with vague release dates for this year that you won't get to play this year because they are getting delayed and will be at next years e3. |
Are you really implying that Sony's 2009 conference was worse than this?
Because, you just describes Sony's 2009 conference pretty well.

I think for all of the households that ALREADY have an Xbox, odds are good that if there's a daughter/wife/grandmother in the house, Kinect would be a likely purchase. For all those households without out one, no. Assuming the Kinect kits are $150 on top of a $300 console, no. Everyone will not be buying this. That is simply not accessible enough. If that's the pricing scenario, most of those with casual interest who said "yes, I'd like to play that!" will end up saying "no, I won't pay that much." |
And the latter are clearly the people to whom Microsoft is trying to appeal here.

That's the strage part... since this was mostly a kinect conference!
I didn't see most of it, but it doesn't sound like I missed much. No megatons to be found here. Will probably wind up being the worst of the three.
I could see Nintendo taking it this year with Zelda reveal, rumored Donkey Kong revival and the 3DS. I just hope they don't spend too much time talking about Wii Party. I have a feeling Sony will be lacking in megatons too.
I'm a big Microsoft fan but I think that Nintendo is going to have the best conference this year since they seem to be focusing on the hardcore this year while Sony and Microsoft seem to be transitioning themselves in to the casual market with Move and Kinect.
There will be more announcements to come throughout the show, since they couldn't fit EVERYTHING in that conference, but that should have been it for the major announcements.
I'm sure there will be other good game announcements to follow, just not big enough for the conference.
Even though Kinect gets its own conference, it is still the point of focus for the Xbox platform with their current strategy.
I enjoyed it. I think it was a very well put together conference. Yes, I have seen better, but that doesn't mean the conference wasn't solid in its own right. In my opinion, the only things that would have made this conference better would be more megatons, surprises, more core exclusives etc. Almost all core games that were shown were previously known about, not to mention some being multiplatform.
Halo: Reach = Awesome!
Gears Of War 3 = Awesome!
Fable 3 = Looks Ok
Kingdom = Looks intriguing.
MGS:Rising is multiplat but looked awesome. Black Ops disappointed me.
I hope Nintendo and Sony have at least as good showings as this. That would make for an interesting E3.
