Um... seriously? It looks like you're forcing the PS3 to only display at 1080p instead of also keeping 720p and 1080i selected. Thus, if a game doesn't support 1080p, it will be forced to display in 480p because you're not allowing it to display in 720p or 1080i. *edit* In fact, a lot of them don't support 1080p. Look at the back of a PS3 game case and it'll give you the "supported HD video output" of that game. Killzone 2, for example, supports 720p and 1080i (you can also force it to 1080p too) while Little Big Planet only does 720p. |
To make my dashboard HD i have to go to
Settings/ display settings/ resolution
In order to make my games HD, i have to go into
Settings/ gamesettings/ resolution
Why must these be 2 different things? WHo the hell wants a SD game with a HD dashboard??????

I don't know why the dashboard is so confusing. With the XMB, however, all you have to do is go to the settings column, scroll down and find display settings, choose your input method and tick the resolution boxes.
The XMB will display at the highest resolution you had selected and games will automatically display at 720p.

This has nothing to do with your PS3 games, these options are for PS1 and PS2 games only.
The other is what controls the output resolution of yor PS3, if you dont have something selected it will default back to the lowest setting.
If they do, I hope they allow you to switch between themes in the menu to go from old new.
What this thread proves is that the XMB isn't the problem, it's the users who haven't taken the time out to fully understand it.

The customer is always right
imho the xmb is probably one of the best non-touch guis ever developed for a media device. while it is definitely impractical for a real computer, it does a spectacular job organizing stuff in an easy-to-use and intuitive layout that does not require very many clicks/joystick moves to go anywhere. However, like any other gui it does take some time to learn where everything is. (you should see me on a mac...) but that is not the fault of the gui. It is impossible to make ANY gui that does more than like three things in such a way that you can instantly find everything with no problems even if you have never used it before.
if you want to know how good an interface is compared to another one, try keeping track of how many clicks/joystick moves/scrolls/flicks/tap/whatevergestureyoucanthingof it takes to navigate from the home menu to do something like play a game or watch a movie. if you do this, the xmb performs at least on par and most of the time far better than pretty much any gui I've ever seen though admittedly this is somewhat limited.
the performance is an issue I'll agree and should be worked on but I hope to god they don't start majorly messing around with the interface because I really doubt you could make it much better and they'd probably just make it worse (anyone remember when they 'updated' the friend's list with those hideous gray boxes?)
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

No they arent, thats just something moron consumers came up with to justify their ignorance
XMB is fine. Maybe just speed it up a bit but the layout is fine.
