Forums - Gaming Discussion - Am I a bad person?

The difference between buying used game and pirating it is none. In fact, I'd say it's dumb to buy the game used, when you can pirate it. Either support the developer / publisher by buying the game new, or don't bother at all. If they aren't getting money, than there is no reason for you to pay anyway (unless you have PS3 which can't play pirated games *yet*).

Depends on what your buying used.

If your buying used 360 games, then yes, you are very bad.

If you are buying used PS3 games, I LOVE YOU

Seriously though, if you want to buy something cheap, buy Amazon. It's usually discounted a little cheaper anyways and it's no tax and free shipping.

Honestly, I really don't care, just as long as you buy your Sega games new.. ~_n

Pssh who buys Sega games...haha

jk

Now you are a bad person.

Yes, you are a bad person. But it has nothing to do with you buying games used.

gamestop makes money of selling used games. its actully kind of a ripoff trading back a game for store credit imo.

No. You are not a bad person. While I would never have ALL my games used, I have a good percentage (more than half).

The question I pose is what makes game developers think they are so special that they should receive money for every transaction. If they are to do that, then we are not buying property but rather are buying use licensees.

As far as I know, publishers do NOT get money from used book sale. Music companies do NOT get money from used CD sales. Movie studies do NOT receive money from used movie sales (except possibly in the case of rental companies selling stock).

You cannot have $60 games and multimillion sellers demand control. You have to adjust the price point or the sales objectives if you want to eliminate the used market (see computer games).

Of course, if you want to offer some extra value for a new purchaser (a la EA'a on-line tag) that you make available for a fee to the used purchaser (since it has already been used), then so be it. To me, that is an acceptable solution.

But let he who has never bought ANYTHING used cast the first stone.

I think publishers do have a right to complain rather vocally, because in no other market are used sales as well entrenched and lucrative as video games. GameStop even tried to make a business out of selling used DVDs like they sell games, but they failed miserably, ridding themselves of all DVD stock in buy 2 get 4 free sales last year.

Because if you really like videogames you should buy them new to support the developpers so that they continue developing games. If you had produced something you would prefer that your product would be sold twice than once for being resold to a second person.

A majority of used car sales are handled by official dealerships, thus car manufacturers still get a cut of the profit I believe.  I could be wrong though, given the way dealerships are franchised.

Either way, the car and video game used markets are hardly comparable.
