Actually I lied, it's not Fire Emblem. Why can't I think of the game. It was a great game on Advance... I can't think of the name for some reason but you basically could turn into a dragon later on in it's story.

Capcom ported Breath of Fire 1 and 2 to the GBA, so maybe one of those two is the game you are thinking of.

Yes!!! That! You're my hero.  Breath of Fire was amazing!

I haven't managed to understand yet whether 3DS is a new system with DS backward compatibility or a new version of DS with 3D added. And in the 2nd case, will new 3D games be playable without 3D on older DS'?

Its been stated a few times that 3DS is a new system. You will need it to play 3DS games but will be able to play DS games on it. While you can turn the 3D on and off as you please you must have a 3DS to play the games. It is said to have more powerfull graphics. I believe they said something along the lines of a Gamecube in power.

They said nothing about the graphics. That was just part of the rumors.

My guess is that 3DS will be released in Japan and Europe this year, then the US next year. Reason being, those two markets need it far more as the DS hardware and especially software sales are starting to slide there. While in the US, the DS hardware and software is still selling pretty strong for the most part, plus there is the newly released DS XL there.

Thanks. Its name was deceiving me.

Am I one of the few who think 5-million is a little unambitious? Seriously if NSMBW can push over 10-mill in one fiscal year then how can 3DS do much worse? ModernWarFare2 sold really well to and Nintendo's hardware has to be as or more successful the COD:MW2. The only reason the 3DS can't break 10-mill is if the console is launched in early 2011 or is highly under supplied.

Seriously its the first 3D platform and from what I've heard its going to be ground breaking technology, even more so then the DS was. I really hope 3DS gets a fall/winter release in NA and if it does then 5-million is the least it will sell. This is a classic case of Nintendo aiming low to avoid dissapointing investors. They are always so humble.

My prediction is 10-million units by March 2011 if it launches this holiday season in a launch similiar to the DS or Wii. (Almost a global launch launching in all major regions within a month or two)!

First paragraph is equating hardware sales and software sales. You got it wrong. They need a hit like NSMBWii or MW2 to help sell the 3DS.

Second paragraph is thinking that tech would sell the system. The mainstream doesn't care about groundbreaking tech. They care about tech that gives them what they want, and with video game systems, that will always be games.

I would usually agree with you. But 3DS will be a phenominon like MW2/NSMBW were. Even without the software. The DS was majorily successful without the software, it sold 5-million units when compared to the GameBoy:Advance which didn't sell nearly that much first year.

I beg to differ that the market doesn't care about ground breaking tech. Look at other industries for example the TV industry where millions are made each day on groundbreaking tech. The computer industry the cell phone industry. 3D is a major new step and I can gaurantee technology will help sell the platform.

Not saying software won't contribute equally to hardware. But hardware will definatly be a factor. I mean its the first time Nintendo has pioneered new hardware since the Wii. Even the DS wasn't as break through as 3D without glasses!
