It will have been over 3 1/2 years, closer to 4 by the time this happens.

This has to be an unprecedented record for a console (or any consumer electronic device) to be on the market for that long, and sell as many units as it has sold at a loss, for the manufacturer.

And while the PS3 has been "un-doomed" since the slim SKU debuted, with the current redesign now pulling hardware units into zero-loss/profit generators, any future talk regarding the premature death of the PS3 now moves into the realm of wild prediction wish fantasies.

i don't think they should do a pricecut unless the console will still net a profit. Playstation 3 has been losing a lot of money for sony and its finally time for it to start making that money back. The userbase is big enough and growing at a good pace for good titles to sell well, and it doesn't need a boost if its going to cost them money.

Awesome news! Hopefully in the next few years they can make profit and cut into the losses of the first 3 years of the PS3.

Now the jokes about hurting Sony by buying the console should slow down.
