He didn't give me a lot of details about what he was looking for, but I do know this much.

He only owns a a Wii. He does enjoy playing games online (example: we both play UNO online via Wii, and he likes that), so presumably an online component would be good. Also, he just recently purchased the Wii (couple months ago - thanks tax refunds!), so he only has a couple games, like NSMBWii, Wii Sports, and I think Wii Play. Also, he lives alone and works really odd/varying shifts/hours, so I think a solid single-player experience would be key for him. I do not know of any prior consoles he owned, so details beyond that are kind of sparse. I will have to ask him for more specifics...

Based on your answers...Tell him to test some of this:

The Conduit has a good Multiplayer component AND is very cheap
Red Steel 2 is a great 1 player only game BUT requires Motion+
Call of Duty Modern Warfare and World at War, are good in both 1 player and Online multiplayer

Try at least 1 Onrails shooter, Dead Space Extraction its great and its cheap, or for something with a more arcade feeling House of the Dead its a good choice.

Okay so I got some more details: He doesn't care at all about an online component, as his hours are wacky and he knows he'd rarely find someone to play and then when he did he'd probably get destroyed and that would frustrate him, so mostly he's looking for a good 1st person story and single player experience. He said he doesn't want to be 'guided' through the game, so that, I would assume, would mean no on-rail types. Plus he said he used to have a game for the original Playstation in which he went and killed Nazis, so if there was something that would fit that bill he'd enjoy that a lot. I'm assuming that really only leaves Call of Duty?

There's also Medal of Honour, but that game is absolutely disgraceful.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I'd still recommend Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Also, Red Steel 2, but only if he doesn't mind picking up a Motion+ for it.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is probably the best FPS-like game, but it's not like Call of Duty/Medal of Honor at all.

if hes looking for more adventure i would def recomend metroid prime 3 but if he just want a straight fps then i would say the conduit.

Wii has the best conditions for FPS, yet worst library. For singleplayer... classic FPS... well CoD4 Port? Metroid is great, but that's not your average FPS style. Mutliplayer is even worse, I'd suggest playing on PC.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Ok, with this much details I can give you...

Red Steel 2 (Yes he can buy a combo with motion+ for 10 dollars less than buying it separated)

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex

Call of Duty World at War

Metroid Prime (3 Corruption or Trilogy), it has a lot of exploration that's why its considered a FPA, but its a great game for 1 player only.

Maybe later he can at least try a very cheap on-rails they are usually good (but short), so its a good investment for 20-30 dollars, there are a lot of good games of this type like RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead Overkill and Ghost Squad. He can fun all by himself or with a friend in co-op.

I was thinking the same thing about the on-rails siutation...I mean, if they're cheap enough, why not try out one or two, especially ones that have gotten really good reviews? I'd heard excellent things about Dead Space: Extraction. I'd imagine that even if it is on-rails the story is interesting and good enough and enjoyable enought to warrant a purchase?

Bah!

If he want a purely First Person Shooter experience, it's hard to go wrong with Modern Warfare Reflex Edition. Really solid title with excellent online and fully customizable controls. I've heard that World at War and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 are also great Wartime FPS.

And yeah, if he's looking for a First Person experience that's different from the rest, I'd go with the Prime games and Red Steel 2. RS2 is more action focused while the Prime games focus more on exploration (although 3 contains more action than its predecessors).

I didn't know that Medal of Honor games even existed on the Wii. All you ever hear about are the Call of Duty games...

Yeah, Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 were the first games that really got the Wii FPS control scheme down. Heck, there's a few members here that still swear by the game's control scheme. Apparently it's that good...

Although it is interesting to see how the Wartime FPS leader changed with this generation. I mean, it was all about the Medal of Honor games back during the PS2/GCN/Xbox days, and now Call of Duty rules the pack. It'll be interesting to see how the new MoH (a Modern version too) does.
