Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Red Steel First US Week

I wish it had sold more but word of mouth will keep it going I believe.

Also, I am tired of this whole piracy thing people seem to throw out on this bard all the time. I am not a proponent of piracy, yet (more on that in a bit), but can any of you show me any expansive statistic that says piracy adversely affects the industry? Any of you? Please share with me.

Because through the magic of google I can show you, at least on the PC, only what are widely regarded as shitty games have high piracy rates. I can also find you sources that say that music pirates buy more music, and contribute more to the music industry, than non-pirates. Lastly, it has been brought to my attention that the Netherlands has conducted a study showing that not only does piracy have no effect on the industry, it may have positive effects on the overall economy.

I think that Ubi is hoping for word of mouth, but if Red Steel 2 tanks, I can only imagine what they will do for future on the Wii. I suggest everyone to go and buy it, or after EA we have another publisher who'll abandon the HC audience.

Practically spoken: There are so many great Wii games in the line for 2010, so I don't bother what games Ubi and EA are publishing in the future.

By the way the sales of many HD-games in the last few month are disappointing too, but everyone only speaks of Wii games.

Well yeah, there are quality titles on HD which tanked in sales, like Bayonetta, selling only 1 milion copies. Oh wait...

And which great games do you have in mind? SMG2, M:M, Zelda Wii, these are 3 games. Red Steel 2 was one of the most anticipated titles amongst many core gamers on the Wii, I was watching that title since before last year's E3 and ever since. You have 3 big N games which is unheard of, so yes, that's great... But this was one of the biggest 3rd party titles. If it won't sell, guess who will think twice before investing into development of Wii games?

Dante's inferno? Nah, that only had a superbowl ad. LoL. And what core Wii gamers were greatly anticipating this game? And what makes this game so big? I have it but I can understand the mixed reviews, its a hate it or love it sort of game. And it is pretty short, around Madworld short. With no multiplayer whatsoever. Though it does have some replayability if you want to complete all the challenges. Why would they think twice? For all the bombs on HD consoles why wouldn't those investors think twice? Don't try and make Wii bombs out to be a bigger deal than any other bombs on other consoles. A bomb is a bomb is a bomb. However, you might want to think twice in calling Wii games bombs so early, as time and time again Wii bombs either go on to sell quite a bit of copies and somehow end up getting sequels.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

In the US it did what I expected if you were paying attention to preorders for several...months. The ads have run for the title so I think it has done OK so far. Like stated before, the game has done 11% of expectations so far (if you exclude the measly Others sales).

Like history has shown us, we can't just base a game's sales off of the first week either. Monster Lab started off with 2k on the Wii first week and is at 150k now. Sales for Skate It fell completely off the map for half a year and then resurged recently due to renewed interest in Skating brought on by Tony Hawk Ride.

Red Steel 2 will do just fine :)

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I work with someone that just "hacked" his Wii to install the HomeBrew channel and he said it was great for all the "free" games he was downloading. He mentioned COD MW:R, Super Mario Bros Wii, and No More Heroes 2. He asked if I wanted him "hack" my Wii so I could get all these games too. I told him I was not interested. Several other people I know have had the same thing done to "get the free games". The main reason people install the HomeBrew channel is to get the Backup Loader, and the main reason people get the Backup Loader is to play pirated games. Is that educated enough?

No it isnt, you dont need homebrew to run pirated games you can install and need to install backuploaders without Homebrew. If they tell you that you need homebrew to play pirated games then they are lying to you and are just as uninformed as you.

If you want to play pirated games you need

1. Wadinstaller to install the ios´es so you can run games through the diskchannel and you are set no need for homebrew

2. If you want to play from HD or SD you need a backuplauncher and you install the channel through wadinstaller and you are set no need for homebrew channel.

The homebrew channel is for homebrew and most people just install it with out actually needing it as you dont need it for playing backups.

Is that clear enough for you?

Look, you are right and I was wrong. You can not use the HomeBrew Channel to play pirated games. In fact, no one has ever installed the HomeBrew channel for the sole purpose of playing pirated games. All the people I know who tell me they have done it are obviously lying. All the YouTube vids showing step by step instructions on how to play pirated games by first installing the HomeBrew channel are false reports with no truth behind them. The logical and indisputable evidence you have provided has shown me the error of my beliefs. Congrats on your victory, there is no longer any need to continue this pointless discussion.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary, always assume you have the upper hand.

some advertising would help too. i didnt know it was out. i only ran into it in the shop

It's been quite extensively advertised, though on the same places that such games as MadWorld and The Conduit were advertised (Adult Swim and Comedy Central)

The first game sold well early on based on a gameplay promise it couldn't fulfill. The second one will is tasked with overcoming the failure of the first's gameplay. But since it actually achieves that promise. It should keep going quite strong.

I forget how much did you bet it would sell in it's first year, was it 500,000 or One million?

On topic: I expected it to actually sell a little less then this based on pre-orders. Still selling half of what your predecessor did isn't very good =/

Why people blaming piracy? The game needs motion+ that many people have no interest in purchasing.

Am I the only person who isn't surprised by the sales? I mean, besides the motion control sword fight, this game had nothing else going for it. No multiplayer is a HUGE turn off, especially for a FPS. It seems like a repetitive game. There's nothing really special about this game that make it a must buy beyond the sword fight.

I think Monster Hunter 3 is going to do really well though.

You aren't alone, I predicted 500K LT sales and I am sticking by it.

It is really a shame, I believe this is one of the best Wii games (if not THE best) so far this year.

Well 500k is Ubisoft's updated expectations as of several months ago, and my guess is that at this amount (probably less) it will be worth their while. For HVS and Sega over 350k of sales was enough to warrant a sequel.

I blame the HomeBrew channel for lack of sales of many games. I know several people who will only purchase the best of the best (Zelda, Mario, Metroid) and all others they download for free using HomeBrew.

Then maybe, developers should make better games, if they want to charge so much? Maybe it's because only the best of the best are worth the price? And maybe, just maybe, you have no idea what you are talking about. The vast majority of Wii owners, do NOT have a softmod installed.
