“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Nice nice nice. Very nice.
This may well end up being my most favourite Mario game ever.

Oh, and as for the 240 stars-thing, obviously it's going to be 120 for Mario, then the same thing for Luigi. Though it'd be brilliant if there'd actually be 240 different stars to collect. I'd burst of snacky happiness.

*Edit* That last bit intrigued me, a lot. And promises great things for the future, no doubt...

'It’s actually a good thing for people to be entertained with such performances with beautiful and dramatic graphics and sound, but to me it’s more important to be able to make people feel as if they’re within the game and they are the ones who are controlling everything out of their will. Take Mario Galaxy, for example. While I’m trying to complete the development of the game, I’m more interested in applying my energies into a game that is going to let the player think for themselves what they really want to do.'

very interesting. Zelda Wii possibly? or maybe......

OT:i really hope there is no Luigi in SMG2. he was cool to play as, but i think there should just be Mario with over 240 stars. so much more reason for me to collect all of em'. but he probably will be there....oh well, still cant wait for the game.

240 stars =0 lot to do in this game must buy!

Cannot wait! I am still a little disappointed about the hack of a hub, but the one in galaxy wasn't as exciting anyway. I like that the challenge is increased too

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

This is going to be EPIC!

240 stars!! This game will never disapoint me!

MY ZELDA COLLECTION

muchas gracias por esta información!

Thanks dude!

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I wonder what he means by over 240 stars. I see three possibilities:

1. There is really 120 stars, but you can play as either Mario or Luigi (like the first Galaxy)

2. Instead of two challenge comet per galaxy (purple comet + one random comet), they have several challenge comets per level: assuming 15 galaxies with 4 stars (2 normal, 1 boss battle, and 1 hidden) and then give each level three challenge comets (the first game had several: enemy speed up, one hit, time limit, cosmic race, and purple coins) that would equal to 240 stars (the amount of comets per level and the number of levels could change, but you get the idea-- the comet levels are significantly increased).

Actually, if there were 70 'normal' levels that would also explain why you need to get 70 stars to beat the game (then you could have 2 comets per level and fill the rest out with something else, say the green stars from the first game).

3. There are actually 240 unique levels.

I don't think #3 is possible, but I think something like #2 is possible-- and what I hope is being implied. While I won't be upset if it is possibility 1, I will be slightly disappointed.

240.....don't believe it.... also more difficult....wow if it's true this is going to be my best game ever

Great news for mario fans. I've grown out of colectathon games, so i take this with a grain of salt.
