Forums - Sony Discussion - Alright....let's discuss HEAVY RAIN's success!

As proud as I am to see that Heavy Rain has sold great, its success never really mattered for anyone not working for Quantic Dream. Sony will continue to test new ideas on the market, and that is really all I care about. Sure mabye 3rd parties will toss together some cheap crap the mimcs Heavy Rain now that they see a market for it, but I won't be buying it. I just want good games, and I know Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo will deliver them. That is were we are going to see the exiting new ideas in gaming. As far as whether 3rd parties are going to start pumping out crap based off of these new ideas. I could care less.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I think the success of Heavy Rain means we will be seeing more motion capture boobs.

Lol, unfortunately that's probably true...

Yeah, "unfortunately" *wink wink*

The horny teenager in me agrees with this. The rest does not

Well, I think it's great of course.

My main hope is that this illustrates that there is scope for more simply offering up endless variations on currently popular genres, that we see more adventure style games as a result, and that we see more publishers looking to support a spread of different titles rather than 3 new FPS hoping one clicks and produces another MW.

I also hope QD progress as well. HR was quite a leap from their previous title, but I felt some clear flaws remain and hope to see QD take another leap in ability in their narrative skills next time around.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I want a survival horror with Heavy Rain style gameplay.

SILENT HILL/HEAVY RAIN?

It'd be like me winning $300,000,000.

i would rather win $300.000.000

...and then spend 50.000.000 to have Quantic Cream making that game

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

The legs are very impressive...

Interesting facts : Heavy Rain is selling better than inFamous, has outsold Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and will probably sell more than Killzone 2 since KZ2 sales have died and HR seems to be have massive legs.

Oh boy am I late to this party, I am ashamed....

But on to the good news. I am glad how great this game has sold, its nice to see a game that makes the story as important of a feature as the graphics or the explosions. I do think we will see more games like this, with the success that Heavy Rain has seen you will see Sony possibly fund more projects like this. Which would be a great thing for the gamers.

I'm really happy Heavy Rain is successful since it means we'll probably get other great games like HR in the same genre. I think HR is the real evolution of old school adventure point and click games and we really needed a game like this one.

Now there are some things which can be improved in execution, like the way voices were captured, or the scenario if David Cage totally handles this part to real professional writers.

Overall, I think HR is a nice step in the right direction for video games. The final product is something Cage can be proud of, and sales definitely show those games have a potential.

The next perfect move would be Sony buying Quantic Dream, or at least QD making a bigger budget game in the same genre than HR.
