I'm not voting, because as I see it, it could be both. Obviously if Nintendo hadn't done the Wii, the exact thing that is today the Move and the support it's getting would have been different, but I don't know if it would be enough to warrant a 'yes'.

If you don't vote you aren't a real person!

Though Sony has been working on motion controls for a while, I don't Sony would have claimed that the Wii was a gimmick and then do a 180 and start promoting motion controls of their own. There had to be some influence somewhere...

I think sony used their original idea with their camera / wand setup, the nunchuck i think they borrowed from nintendo i think nintendo thought out the control method much more than sony since sony higher ups didnt really like the idea. and of course sony wouldnt hae the move right now if nintendo didnt have the wiimote.

it is diffidently somewhere in the middle ground especially as Sony themselves give some credit to the Wii at the GDC (they wouldn't have mentioned the Wii if there wasn't some connection). as a lot of people have already said the finally design features are based on the Wii mote, and the sub controller was apparently added because developers wanted a nunchuck but the majority of the tech is original patents and demonstration before the Wii was even announced prove that.

the middle ground is most likely to be were the truth is it isn't yes and it isn't no. imo.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

No, Sony anticipated to make a motion controller since 2004, the motion controller itself has looked the same since 2004, if anything the PS2's Eyetoy inspired Nintendo to make an even better motion device.

This is how a products are made, people constantly building on others great ideas.

sony didn't need anyone to launch the eye toy last generation and they would make it this generation also... wii confirm that this type of motion control is a success and give sony the heads up that is OK to invest more money that they initially have put into the development of move... wii motion plus is the nearest thing to playstation move so sony ain't that late... that is how i see it... not the tech or the design is a copy... just the drive to make money is the same in both companies

This won't really put the matter to rest. It doens't matter at all what we believe, it's what Sony did.

i get the eye toy argument were sony attempted the motion control market last gen... i get that there are videos showing the early prototypes of the psmove prior to the wii's release...

...but without the wii, i don't think we the move would have ever seen the light of day. sony definitely had inspiration from nintendo.

I seriously doubt we would have seen Move this gen if not for the Wii. Or Natal for that matter. Next gen, possibly. So I voted yes. The setup is similar, but Sony is trying (I think, i could be horribly wrong) to take things a step further. Will it work? Who knows. Lots of people thought the Wii would bomb, and look where we are now.
