I'm really amazed at how this thread turned from 'CoH Rox!' to 'Starcraft is the best' so quickly... Really, I created the thread title to lure people in.. I said Starcraft was overrated to end the discussion about Starcraft, that was dumb of me, it stirred up another discussion.. People need to accept the fact, that games amaze you more when you're younger / when you actually played them when they were released. Starcraft has lost it's glory, although it's still being played alot. Heck, it's even still being played at tournaments..

I ended the discussion with KungKras rather quickly, since he couldn't be convinced to take over my standpoint anyway. I'm convinced that he played Starcraft when it was released / when he was younger. It gave him a certain impression, and he won't let go of that. He showed me "Micro Management" of Starcraft, but that was all about exploiting glitches. That was wat I meant with the fact that CoH has MM better integrated. That's not surprising either, CoH launched in 2006.

I played Starcraft a long time myself either, but I accept that other RTSes have surpassed it since then. Sure, it was one of the best RTSes at it's time, and could be seen as one of the best RTSes of all time, but it's not THE best (I'm speaking of quality here, that could be seen as opinion-based, but I think quality can be seen differently aswell.)

I respect everyone's opinions, and I understand alot of people find that Starcraft is the best RTS. But take a moment to step back, let go of your previous memory's of Starcraft, and play it again. You'll see what is has become. There's nothing wrong with that. All games lose it's glory after some time. The gameplay becomes generic, the graphics become bad, the console it's being played on is getting older aswell. (With a PC, you'll get compatiblity issues with old games awell.)

I wanted this thread to be just about CoH. It was my mistake that that hasn't happened since I came up the thread title. It was just to lure people's attention. If I made a thread title with: "Company of Heroes, a great RTS", it would've got like 10 replies, since I'm new here, and people don't care about my topics.

Forgive my ignorance, but please, just think about what I just said. You need to move on, you don't live in the past but in the present. Accept the fact that games are getting better and better, and don't keep comparing it with games out of your childhood,

Goodday.

Company of Heros is in my top ten, but by no means my first.

My top three consists of:

Supreme Commander (vanilla)
The Battle for Middle-earth II
Age of Mythology

So you choose Macro M RTSes that involve unit spamming over Micro M RTSes, that invole way more strategy? I don't understand that, but anyway, that's your opinion and I'll have to respect that.

It's also my opinion that games that involve unit spamming and with a minimal use of Micro Management, shouldn't even be called Real Time Strategy games. I'm aiming at games like Battle for Middle Earth (II), Age of series, alot of games from the C&C series, and probably alot more. It's just selecting a group of soldiers, and sending them to a certain spot, and most of the time you can just completely forget about them. You'll just create another group of soldiers and send them in...

nothing has beaten Company of heroes? shit, Company of heroes was beaten when it wasn't as good as starcraft.

And the best RTS no one played was Rise of Legends, the campaign sucked, but the multiplayer was great.

Also, Starcraft2 *might* just beat out starcraft, so far the beta is fun.... stuff still needs some balance though...but it IS a beta.

The macro RTSes that involve 'spamming', as you call them, require a different way of thinking.  Games where you command small amounts of units in individual engagements are best described as tactics (how you fight individual battles).  The macro RTSes which take the focus off micromanagement, on the other hand, are best described as strategy (how individual battles fit in the greater context of your plan to defeat the enemy).  In fact, the fact that individual units are expendable is more a hallmark of strategy, as the converse suggests a tactical context where the advantage of a single unit is more pivotal to the outcome than having a better overall plan than your opponent (eg dictating the terms and conditions on which you engage the enemy, deciding whether to engage at all).

You're right, the only reason Starcraft was brought up in this thread was your conceited aggrandization of CoH as the best RTS ever. It's good that you've learned your lesson. What apparently has not dawned upon you is the eurudition that your opinion is not fact. Your 'mission' to show CoH as superior to every other RTS is not only profoundly misguided, but has yet to show evidence of anything that would convince any decent gamer to stand by your dogma. Simply saying Starcraft is old and obsolete does not make it so, and your unequivocal lack of knowledge and understanding of the game does nothing to lend credence to your arguments. Your goal is to convince others, but it is a sad fact that you cannot show the same cerebral fortitude or acumen that you expect of others by keeping an open mind on the issue yourself.

In the end, I'm left puzzling this conundrum; Why invite discussion in the first place if all you are interested in is circle jerking over CoH?

Also, Kenny is correct. Starcraft is relatively simple game, and it's immense playability and strategical diversity is derived mostly from it's tactical depth. What separates it from other games of it's kind is the unique diversity and dynamic relationships between the different units. Simply put, if there is anything like a high-level Corsair-Reaver vs Zerg matchup in another game, I've yet to see it.

Helios got here before me once again :)

Rickz0r, If you say that CoH is the best RTS, then be prepared to face the people who disagree with you, and be prepared to make your case instead of making unproven statments that you are unable to back up and then ending the discussion because people are "teh blind fanboyz".

I LOVE ICELAND!

Company of Heroes is amazing. I don't really call it an RTS, as much as a Tactical Combat Strategy.

@Bolded, I absolutely not said that. And you should check my reason why I made the thread title that way.. I wanted to end the discussion bout Starcraft, since I wanted to talk bout CoH

I actually liked Dawn of War 2 better when it came to the tactical things. The Space Marines are just pure badass motherfuckers and it's really hard not to enjoy killing aliens left and right.
