How do you know what the system does when you are online? How do you know that Sony or some other company doesnt use the device to record pictures from your home?
It has been done with Webcams. It will be done with this device as well.

Funny how ignorant tech savvy people are to not see the obvious risk. And this is not directed at you, but rather Sony.

1. You would need to either hack into someone's private network or have special software installed.
2. In terms of the PlayStation Eye camera, the FTC would ban Sony's game consoles from the USA and fine the hell out of them if they did that.
3. That happened from a school, not regulated by product safety boards. Easily done considering stupid kid probably downloaded some software off the school website, given software, or gave out way to much information about their private networks.
4. Only way Sony could do that is if you willingly sign a documented legal paper stating your willing to hand over your privacy to Sony.
5. The PS Eye is ran off the power of a USB port. Turning off the PS3 kills all power to its USB ports.
So your being way to paranoid.
