Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 360 will maintain its lead over the PS3 in 2010.

it's outselling with shortages... if microsoft can't take worldwide lead every week with a $199 machine at retail they're doomed!

The gap increases even when the PS3 outsells the 360, so you're right.

It does follow the same trend with the generation. 2006 Xbox, 2007 PS3, 2008 Xbox, 2009 PS3, 2010 Xbox? At least in terms of performance in the 2nd part of the year.

Exactly THIS.

For the record, I can't completely buy the OP's numbers because at the current sales rate (PS3 outsold the 360 WW in January only 40k).  At that rate, the gap would only be down to just under 6 million by the end of Aug (before likely price adjustments).  How could it get down to 4.5 million, especially when VGC keeps making adjustments that widen the gap?

As stated before by a few wise souls here, people overreacted to the PS3 sales bump in 2009 just like they did to the 360 sales bump in 2008 and the PS3's other sales bump in 2007.

So how about this, I'm going to give everyone here something to feel celebratory about:  the Xbox 360 will be the best selling 2nd place console in history and the Playstation 3 will be the best selling 3rd place console in history.  Glass half full, folks.  Glass half full.

Thank you.

Whatever the numbers actually are relative to each other, the truth still stands I guess that these companies make their moves typically a year apart from each other.

Tease.

Fixed. :P

The PS3 gets within 1 million WW, then maybe you could say that could be true.  But as it stands, that's just wishful thinking.  And its also focusing on the WRONG thing.

For instance, if I wanted I could focus on the fact that, coming into this gen, MS was the underdog that was expected to be in 3rd place and Sony the 800 lb. gorilla that would dominate with a 100 million + lead like it did in the two previous gens.  And, in comparison to that, to sell 33 million in roundabout 3 years is pitiful compared to expectations.  But I won't do that.  Instead, I celebrate how amazing its doing for a 3rd place console.

Be proud of that instead of focusing on the distant possibility of it reaching 2nd place.

uhhhhhhhhh

you are forgetting that in the 2nd half of the year
GT5 will be out which is a killer game and will destroy most competition (in Europe and Japan at least)

AND

my bet is that versus is out (at least in japan) in November so Japan will not fall

and now onto the US....the ps3 is pretty much even with the x360 at this point of time and with the releases that microsoft has it will cement its place BUT

AND THIS IS MAJOR

the games that are to be released will NOT move hardware much so NO the gap wont increase

Predictions

GT5 will sell 3.2million + first week on ps3 (made 06 March 2010)

FFXIII Versus will have higher Metacritic scores than FFXIII after the first month.... Bet going on with perpride - loser changes sig for a month

KH3 will be PS3 EXCLUSIVE - willing to bet removal from vgchartz for a month

I will play the card I have always played: Games like Halo (this one did work) and Fable won't move hardware, or at least, not as much as 360 fans hope. Those have already been released previously on the 360, and the newer ones will only sell to the existing userbase. Right now I only see Natal and Alan Wake moving hardware (I'm sure I'm missing stuff, so feel free to correct me).

Meanwhile PS3 will have all games that had previous itinerations all the way back on the PS2 like God of War 3, The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo 5. And new stuff like Heavy Rain and Arc.

Each console has something to counter the other, but so far I can only see the PS3's games as hardware movers.

PS: IMO!

EDIT: I left out a lot of games, I just realized that. I simply wanted to use the "Top Games".

Oh yeah, FFXIII... this one is multiplatform, so I don't know... but I expect it to sell more on PS3 for obvious reasons.

That's right, just one "d"

In b4 "it's addict"

Fixed back! Don't act so but hurt. After reading the man's post he is thinking more logically than anyone else. Squillium and Darth are both right you on the other hand... not so much.

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

Most people don't even buy the $199 X360. It has been said many times by Microsoft that their top selling SKU is the Pro not the Arcade model.

Its too difficult to say for sure without knowing how Natal will fare. MS has gambled huge on the add on. But who knows how it will effect sales. Im personally hoping it will be a success. I figure anything that pushes the industry forward in terms of gameplay benefits up all as consumers. More variety.
