And some people on here said Nintendo would never release a model that couldn't "Switch" and be played both docked and handheld.
Great price, can't find info on the screensize though. Also HD rumble is removed, does that mean just HD or is there no rumble at all? Would be a shame as using the OG Switch you really appreciate having rumble on a handheld.
Wondering what changes under the hood are stopping it from being used docked though, not bundling with a dock saves money, not being able to use a dock? Not sure how that saves money.
Anyway as a Switch owner I don't have any reason to buy this.
Can't be docked to the TV at all, that's a weird fucking decision for the 'Switch'.
Regardless, $199 is a great price, this thing will sell huge numbers, Nintendo's going to own the rest of the year.
I called it :)
199$ price point.

alot of people agree'ed a Switch mini was the better way to go.

Smaller Design without the joycons being removeable things (fused into the design), They could probably sell it 100$ cheaper than current model. It would just be a Switch focused at the handheld segment, and it would have vastly better battery life. I think theres a market for such a device. |
*edit:
Think these are useing the same old 20nm chips as the current Switch models.
Sadly that rumor of 16nm, either isnt true, or Nintendo decided to not make use of these chips now, and are waiting a year or two before doing so.
Maybe theres a "new Switch Lite" next year, with 16nm?

Here's an official comparison between the Switch and Switch Lite. https://www.nintendo.com/switch/compare/#game-compatibility
Wonder if this uses the new "Mariko" chip, no mention of battery life improvements and it still has a fan. Would be weird if it still uses old chip.
Regardless Switch will sell 20m+ this calendar year. Question is whether this launch will make 2019 the peak year, or if 2020 will be Switch's peak as I previously expected.

Weird how it says it doesn't support tabletop mode. Can it not connect to normal joycons? Did they remove bluetooth? Would seem a bit weird to take out that functionality. Though it makes more sense on why it can't be used docked if they took out bluetooth to save money.
On the plus side at least they have a decent dpad.
Did I just read your can play games from your main switch on the mini?

Makeing a better product, honed for a focused market > staying true to a meaningless name for no reason.
it was obvious they would go this route, and its the right way to go about things.
